Breaking News: HND/BSc
Dichotomy Removed.
At last, it is with excitement,
capital joy amidst jubilation and
celebration of over 20 years
struggle of Nigerian Polytechnic
students and graduates including
the staff unions and heads of
Polytechnic in Nigeria.
I am pleased to announce to the
public that the COUNCIL OF
ESTABLISHMENT which comprises
of all the head of service of the 36
States of the Federation and the
head of service of the Federation
approved the removal of this long
overdue dichotomy which hinder
the career progression of HND
holders in civil service in her 39th
meeting held in Minna Niger state
capital during the week after an
exhaustive deliberation, pro and
anti deposition which ended with
tie vote of 16 against 16 while the
head of service of the Federation
voted in support as presiding
officer after the tie, to earn the
Polytechnic sector the victory.
Making the vote 17 pro against 16
anti. Henceforth, This resolution
automatically lift embargo on HND
holder career progression in civil
service as the holder can now rise
beyond Deputy Director in civil
service as well enjoy all sort of
benefits/promotion to the topmost
rank due to BSc holders in civil
service.
It is on record that this same
Council was the sole obstacle for
this struggle since year 2005 when
President Olusegun Obasanjo
pronounced the removal of this
dichotomy, the Council called the
then president statement a mere
pronouncement with out
documentation and refused it
adoption nor implementation.
It will be recalled that the last
meeting of the council which was
held at Ilorin kwara state capital
witness heavy presence of Nigeria
Polytechnic students which I
personally led as the National
Senate President of NAPS to the
council in protest for the need for
the council to reconsider her
position on the said matter.
A position paper was submitted
after the protest as demanded by
the then head of service of
Federation who was the chairman
of the Council, unfortunately, the
matter was completely discussed
nor concluded at Ilorin until now
in her next meeting in Niger state.
The Council often meets every 2
years, On behalf of the entire West
Africa Polytechnic students and
most especially the Nigeria
Polytechnic students, I express
sincere gratitude to the head of
service of states and that of the
Federation who stood for us and
with us, the Federal Ministry of
Education, the National Board for
Technical Education NTBE, Council
of Head of Polytechnic and
Colleges of Technology COHEADS,
Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnic ASUP, past and present
leadership of National Association
Of Polytechnic Students NAPS and
by extension the Nigerians Union
of journalist for their support all
through the struggle.
We look forward for immediate
implementation by all state of the
Federation, Federal government
agencies and departments while I
call on all Polytechnic student to
join us as we Commence
appreciation/celebration.
Aluta continua, Victoria Ascerta,
No retreat no surrender,
As long as we live, struggle
continues.

Immediate past Senate President

FG to begin re-screening for 2000 Immigration recruits By Omeiza Ajayi ABUJA – The Federal Government has said it would from August 29 commence the re-screening of 2,000 recruits of the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS who were “dispersed” after being trained and issued employment letters in February last year. Announcing this in a statement issued Monday in Abuja, spokesman of the NIS, Ekpedeme King said the decision was reached in the aftermath of an emergency meeting of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) on the 11th of August 2016. The service however listed several guidelines for the screening of the applicants. Apart from the necessary security clearance, they would also undergo a drug-test, certificate verification as well as the implementation of CDFIPB policy on “Age on Rank”. Part of the statement reads; “The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) wishes to inform the 2000 applicants for employment into the Service who were irregularly issued letters of employment in February, 2015 that the Federal Government has approved the review of the case. “Following an emergency meeting of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) on the 11th of August 2016, the following guidelines were issued for the screening of the applicants: “Consequent on the above, applicants whose names are listed in the NIS website: www.immigration.gov.ng are requested to report to the NIS Headquarters Abuja with their academic certificates, birth certificate, previous employment records (if any), indigene certificates (originals and photocopies), two passport photographs, and in batches according to the time-table”. By the schedule, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II, ASI2 (CONPASS 08) from all the states between Abia and Jigawa in alphabetical order would take their turn on August 29 while those that fall between Kaduna and Zamfara states would have theirs on August 30. For Assistant Inspectors of Immigration, AII (CONPASS 06) those from Abia to Jigawa state would sit for the screening on August 31 while those from Kaduna to Zamfara would have theirs on September 1. For Immigration Assistants IA1 – IA3 (CONPASS 3,4,5), those from Abia to Edo states would be screened on September 2, Ekiti to Kwara, September 3 and Lagos to Zamfara, September 4. “The general public should please note that the exercise is not a call for fresh recruitment. Therefore, no application for recruitment should be forwarded to the NIS”, the service warned. After the botched 2014 recruitment into the service the then president, Goodluck Jonathan, instituted a committee to assist the CDFIPB conduct a fresh recruitment. The exercise has since been bugged with controversies following the dispersal of the 2,000 fresh recruits at the advent of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. |

Those already in service or anyone that has an idea should please help me to clarify this. I am a Chartered Accountant with ICAN certification, Accounting professional certificate was not required in the course of filling application form online. How relevant would my certificate be? Or does it mean my professional certificate will not be useful? Thanks. |
