The excesses of PDP actions in salvaging the future of the South-West : Implementing a policy of 'can Vote BUT can't be Voted for' in the SouthWest

It is no lie that the recent actions of the just-turned-opposition party, the PDP, in South West states portrays a plot to undermine the future of South-Westerners. In the last Ekiti elections, this same party obviously ensured they pursued and achieve their goal by massively rigging out the man chosen by the masses in Ekiti state, the then former governor and incumbent, Kayode Fayemi. Let us recall how unsafe Oyo was when PDP was at the helms of affairs in the state. Also remember the spate of constant killings and proliferation of democratic defamation in Ogun state under Gbenga Daniels. Is this not a wake-up call to check the recent excesses of the PDP in Lagos?

Right now, the political tools used by the PDP in Lagos to ruin the future of the South-West are nobody except the Igbos, the historic enemies of the Yoruba dream right from the first republic. Recent outbursts of aggression against South-West natives can definitely not be understated, especially going by their mantra of 'Lagos is no-man's land'. In as much as majority of Yorubas write off the bluff of these group, it is important to pinpoint their failure to identify the lingering evil plot these group have forged with the PDP to mar not only the progress of Yorubas in Lagos, but also their aim to use the PDP as a platform to install an illegal claim to the historical setup of Lagos. A look at the present situation in Jos should enlighten Yorubas and help them come up with ways of addressing the situation lest it turns into a Jos-like scenario where Beroms had to resort to an ethnic cleansening to correct their 'mistakes'. As it is with the recent heats flaring here and there in Lagos, is it not WISE for South-West political and elite figures to come together and push for the inclusion of the option of a 'can vote BUT can't be voted for..' to non-natives at the National assembly?

PDP definitely will not mind what may be of these Ibos in the event of a possible clash with the natives of Lagos state, as they need to use them to achieve their goals. It however lies on the responsibility of Yoruba leaders to come up with and push for political policies that quash the dreams of an illegal group wishing the people of SW bad luck, since that can only be achieved in a regional government, the same progress these same set of group will readily kick against. Since the constitution of Nigeria is supreme to any of the South-West states, then this should call for reason for Yoruba leaders to rise by moving for the inclusion following political strategies and policies:

- A state should be allowed to adopt the option to develop a policy of ''non-natives can vote BUT cannot be voted for into any political position WITHIN the state' , whereby any of the parties in any state MUST ALWAYS PRESENT A NATIVE as a candidate at any level of political appointment. Any party fielding a non-native will swiftly and automatically be disqualified by the dictates of the state policy, hereby rendering the attempt/efforts of that party to use foreigners against Yoruba wishes fruitless.

- Non-natives will be free to vote whoever it is outside the confines of the state at the national level. For instance, non-natives in SW can freely vote a non-Yoruba as a president in any South-West state (so as not to conflict with the Federal law).

- A state will have the option of using a policy that all parties 'in the state' MUST present NATIVE candidates to be represented at federal constituencies. This will help prevent the culture of the natives of the state. The Jos scenario will have been avoided had this been implemented.

This will be a starting point to checking not just the excesses of the PDP, but will also greatly wash away evil plots of foreigners on the Yoruba soil. I hope this is taken into consideration in the nearest future.

Sorry @ Stblack1 your post calls for a "non one Nigeria agenda"if you say states should adopt a policy like "to vote but cannot be voted for". Instead I would suggest a situation whereby Nigeria becomes a confederation of states or region with each region developing it's own social-political policies that would be sustainable and acceptable for it's people but will however not negate national interest. And a national government would be formed to oversee issues such foreign affairs, defence, sports and health thereby reducing the over bloated nature of the centre and empowering for there people.*Because we claim WE ARE ONE by mouth in this country but our actions show otherwise for example, in the 21st century we still talk about "state of origin" instead of "place of birth", To get jobs/admission even into a federal institutions tribalistic n religious sentiments play in etc. This is my humble solution

This is a post that concerns mostly SouthWesterners. Adopting a confederation wont be welcome by most states, as it may eventually rob them of some income from the centre. But adopting the above policy will not conflict with federal laws but consolidate native cultural and political values. You should get the essence of the unknown author's point.
