Seriously this issue about who owns Lagos is going to far. The truth is Lagos benefitted from the years of been a capital just the way Abuja is benefitting now. Lagos is really a no man' land. The truth is it would be inequitable for yorubas to clam lagos. If they were that super why hasn't osun state or oyo state become an economic hub? And if they think igbos are been deceptive by running for elections and winning in Lagos why haven't the igbos won anyelections in osun or in oyo state? Imagine if abuja loses its capital status today. there are so many yorubas who would be able to win elective posts cos of their massive population and igbos too. politics is a game of numbers. since the lagos capital status attracted a lot of Nigerians and keeps them till date then yorubas have got to live with it that Lagos is just like London or New York. cosmopolitan. With the comments of the oba inciting genocide against the igbos it is very necessary now for the national assembly and the state houses of assembly to amend the constitution and make Lagos a federal commercial capital territory. this would mean Lagos would no longer be a state but would have an equal status as Abuja. A minister who would report to the president would run the city. This would avoid a situation where there could be a genocide against the igbos and hausas if in 2019 the igbos happen to produce the governor. Truth is Marwa was not a lagosian meanwhile he was the governor and he performed so well. Lagos should be a neutral zone and the process SHOULD START NOW

Capital territory ko, capita territory ni.
Lagos is and will remain a trading post for the oodua nation.
The struggles, the wars and the blood shed by our forefathers to defend and build the place shall not be in vain.
No one begged the colonials to move here. They moved here because of the progressive nature of the SW and to make money in a way they weren't elsewhere . Even when We bicker, we still find a way to move forward.

Abuja is the 4th.

question is how long lokoja a capital? calabar? from Lagos was capital for a longer time than these places. and also benefitted from the oil boom if the70s. when lokoja was capital what oil was nigeria producing? to add to what the op said anyway i think every geo political zone should have a federal capital. this would spread the booty round and stop all this migration to lagos as if its london.

Another shifting of goal post.

It is not how long but which cities have been FCTs before, that are qualified for the ''No Man's Land'' status.

excuse me. can you compare a lokoja that was barely capital for a year or a calabar that was actually the capital of southern Nigeria with a Lagos that was capital of a united oil rich Nigeria for 77 years? this is why history should be made compulsory in all schools. it would help folks like you. this is from wikipedia-

The British annexed Lagos as a colony in 1861. The remainder
of the Benin Empire - i.e, modern-day Nigeria - were seized by
the British in 1887, and when the British established the Colony
and Protectorate of Nigeria in 1914, Lagos was declared its
capital.
Lagos maintained its status as capital when Nigeria obtained its
independence from Britain in 1960. Lagos was therefore the
capital city of Nigeria from 1914 until 1991, when it was replaced
as Federal Capital Territory by planned city of Abuja, built
specifically for such purpose.

Funny you. You were basing your argument of Lagos being a former FCT and now you have turned the argument to number of years,

the number of years is immaterial and incosequential, in as much as former capital of Nigeria appellation is on a city. The cities are Lokoja, Calabar, Lagos and presently Abuja.

You are a fake revisionist.

Which land in Nigeria was not colonised by the British, even the gully eroded Biafra.

When the British came, they met only sea shore or thick forest in Lagos?

Wonders shall never end.

So, the argument has changed from the number of cities that were former FCTs to the number of years now?

As usual, you always think you are smarter than others, whereas others can see through your folly.
