The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has sacked two Electoral Officers attached to Oredo and Orhiomwon local government Areas of Edo state over their alleged involvement in the disappearance of result sheets provided for elections in those areas in the 28 March Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Mike Igini, who announced this during a meeting with the Leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, also disclosed that other officers of the Commission were being interrogated over alleged malpractices in the last elections, adding that those involved may face prosecution.

Igini told leaders of the various political parties that after a meeting with the National Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in Abuja, the Commission decided that elections will be conducted in those areas where they had to postpone the elections due to late arrival of voting materials and disappearance of result sheets.

According to him, areas where elections are rescheduled to hold include the entire Orhiomwon local government area, six wards in Uhumwonde, some wards and units in Ikpoba Okhai, Ovia North East, Ovia South West and Oredo local government areas.

He said the winner of the Edo South Senatorial District election will emerge through a simple majority, adding that the winner could only emerge after elections were held in those areas.

“Orhiomwon election is also very important because apart from the senate, we also have a House of Representatives seat at stake in that area. So the result will also be determined after the Orhionmwon and Uhumwonde elections,” Igini said, just as he emphasised that card readers will be used for the Saturday’s elections across the state.

There was however war of wards between PDP and APC leaders when Barr. Igini gave the names of those areas where the rescheduled elections will hold, with leaders of the two parties making allegations and counter allegations about alleged ploy to rig the elections using some Electoral officers.

Tempers flared as those areas mentioned did not go down well with the PDP leaders, including the State Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, former Deputy Governor, Lucky Imasuen and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who insisted that election held in some parts of Orhiomnwon and therefore the results should stand

Thank God for PVCs, Card Readers and Jega and thanks to the most High that Buhari won.

Sanity is gradually returning back to Nigeria and the DARKNESS which jonaTAN and his heartless, soulless and wicked PArty PDP represents have come to an end.

Hard to believe Fayose and Metuh are looking up to Buhari to help rein in the 19 APC lawmakers he laid siege on, destroy their businesses, damage their homes and make them run on exile out of Ekiti with the help of Police and Soldiers but today the cock have come home to crow and the Nation has been rescued from the IMPUNITY that the jonaTAN administration represents.

INEC officials colluding with the ruling party to circumvent the WISH and CHOICE of the Electorates because of money. I hope they collected enough to last them a lifetime. wicked enemies of the people

INEC is doing a good job by punishing its officials that are tarnishing their reputation. PDP members that are always bribing voters with money on election day should be arrested on the spot. I also commend INEC for insisting on the use of the card readers.

an honest REC resheduling elections because result sheets were missing.and also sanctioning the electoral officers involved.the REC was very angry and stated that the result sheets should never have been missing. Very unlike the Rivers REC. And some people say amaechi should never have asked for the result sheets. Why will result sheets be missing?

I think JEGA is just being diplomatic. Edo state elections was a child play compared to what transpired in Rivers state. Infact, the whole of the electoral officers in Rivers state should be removed against this coming gubernatorial elections so that all nerves would be calm

The rivers REC was a thief and a fraud. The Edo REC came out boldly to deny the fact he didn't withhold Result Sheets from the Presiding Officers and wondered why they kept it away from the electorates and the party agents.

Most are protecting their reputation and their jobs.
