Okonjo-iweala’s Comment On N30tr Suit Unfortunate – SERAP by MRLINGTON(m): 8:54am On Apr 16, 2015
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has described as unfortunate and disgraceful, a statement credited to Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, dismissing a suit seeking probe into the alleged missing N30 trillion.

SERAP had sued Okonjo-Iweal to the Federal High Court in Lagos seeking information on the alleged missing N30 trillion as stated by former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chukwuma Soludo.

But Okonjo-Iweala, in her immediate reaction, had dismissed the suit as another ploy of the opposition to discredit her.

Speaking through her Special Adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, the minister, who described SERAP as a “so-called civil society group,” had specifically described the suit as a politically-motivated one, which was filed based on the discredited N30 trillion allegation by Soludo.

“The suit is the latest in the campaign of falsehood and politicisation of the economy by persons and groups, who are getting more desperate by the day because the economy, despite their propaganda, is still standing and will continue to stand.

“Like their previous efforts, this latest one will fail because Nigerians can see through their antics.

“SERAP is nothing but a political tool of the opposition hiding behind the façade of advocacy,” the minister had stated.

But SERAP’s Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumini, in a telephone interview with Daily Independent on Wednesday, said the reaction of the minister was not only unfortunate but disgraceful coming from such high office in the country.

Mumuni said instead of addressing issues, the minister missed the point again by attacking the group, adding that it was a shame that such could emanate from the high office of someone in the person of Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

“SERAP, as we speak, is in court against the Lagos State Governmentm which is an All Progressives Congress (APC) state. We also dragged the Rivers State Government to ECOWAS Court over demolition of some houses in the state.

“The point is, the N30 trillion that we are talking about affects all Nigerians and any effort to seek accountability in respect of the missing fund should be seriously addressed. That is why to us, the comment by the minister is most unfortunate,” Mumuni stressed.?
