Was Amaechi Right In Appointing Nat. Chairman Of NHRC To Chair State Inquiry? by CharlesPhc: 12:34pm On Apr 17, 2015
Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has inaugurated a 9-man commission of inquiry to commence investigations into the Politically Motivated Killings in Rivers State. Members of the commission include; Professor Chidi Odin-Kalu (Chairman, National Human Rights Commission) as chairman , Sir Samuel Egbe secretary etc...!!!

My question is, how can a state governor appoint a National Appointee in the person of Prof. Chidi Odin-Kalu to head a State Commission of Inquiry? Shouldn't the State Governor have written to the NHRC (as is the usual practice) for the NRHC to conduct an independent investigation rather than a state government-sponsored investigation? After all Gov. Amaechi is an interested party in the investigation and as such the commission may not guarantee an unbiased investigation and recommendation to the state government. For instance, if APC members in Rivers State are found culpable in some incidence, would the Commission/Committee be bold to report same to an APC led governor and stand their ground? I agree the Governor has a constitutional duty to appoint a commission of Inquiry against politically motivated killings but I don't agree that the person to chair such state committee should be the National Chairman of the National Human Right Commission.

Hmmmnn!!! Well that's his way......he makes and follows only his own rules. Still owing workers salaries, state civil servants have been clamouring he pays their salary. He refused to Install the chief Judge and locked up court for over a year now. Lots of people are awaiting trial and justice in cell, some are even innocent , the court has been under lock and key for over a year in Rivers State. Among the innocents still in cell for over a year awaiting trial is a young lady who stood in to be arrested instead of her sick dad when the police came to arrest her dad over some problem the dad has with someone......this happened shortly when the court was shut by Ameachi. Ever since she has been in cell and her dad is now dead, shortly after her mum died too, she is left now with just she and her siblings with no parents and she is still in cell till date.......awaiting
