F ormer Inspector-General of Police( IGP), Mr
Suleiman Abba, yesterday attributed his sudden
removal from office to the act of God, even as he
begged for forgiveness from anyone that he may have
offended in the cause of carrying out his job.
Abba said he took over office when the political
situation in the country was tense and all attention
was focused on the general elections.
He, however, noted that the elections were free, fair
and credible and thanked all those who contributed to
make the exercise a success.
The former IGP, who said this while handing over to
the new Acting IGP, Mr Solomon Arase, at the Force
Headquarters in Abuja yesterday, said: “I want to
appeal to those who for any reason I may have
offended due to lack of proper judgment as the case
may be.
“For those who felt deeply offended, find a place in
your heart to forgive me it is God that judges”. He
said.
He also thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for
making him attain the pinnacle of his career and
congratulated Mr Arase, for his appointment, which he
said was well deserved, he has no doubt the new IGP
will take the police to the next level, even as he called
for support and co-operation from the rank and file for
the new IGP.
In his address, Arase called on officers and men on
the need to perform their duty, promising to make
their welfare a priority not just for the police but for
the country as a whole. He, however, noted that he
took over the mantle of leadership of the police at a
very difficult time.
