If, after the 1966 coup d'etat that led to the killing of Tafawa Balewa (Prime Minister), Ahmadu Bello (Saduana of Sokoto) and many other Northerners by the Igbo junior officers in the Army, Aguiyi Ironsi had brought those officers to book, as the North demanded, MAYBE, there might not have been a civil war in 1967.

Afterall, Nigeria survived the bloody 1953 Kano Riot.

Less emotion based decisions, disappointingly block voting a losing sinking political party in the presidential race shows lessons have not been learnt by the people concerned.

Yes. 4 of the 5 officers were Igbos. The man who took over, an Igbo. That makes it an Igbo coup.

This is a fact not born from sentiments. Pls, see it as such.

The Vultures will invade this thread now calling Ikemba coward forgetting that Ogundipe fled without hearing a gunshot and Oladipo Diya a general was crying before a recruit Abacha like a 11months old toddler

We would have prevented the civil war had the cowardly soldiers sent to eliminate Azikiwe had succeeded.

We still need that kind of revolution in Nigeria today cos it's still d same politicians who were in power 30yrs ago that are still in power today.
If only we can do away with them and start afresh cos they have continue to fail over and over again.

So you don't know their places of Origins?

So like I asked, are they now Igbo and no longer South South?

The only person there from South East is Ifeajuna who was later shot by Ojukwu for working against Igboland
Go figure

These are the actions that could have prevented Nigeria and Biafra from going into civil war

1) If Aguiyi Ironsi had allowed the coupists to be tried in the military court.

2)If Aguiyi Ironsi had allowed regional government to be in place instead of introducing unitary system of government.

3) If Ojukwu had listen to the words of wisdom

4) If Ojukwu had not allowed his ego to overshadow his sense of reasoning

What you should be asking is if the impending civil war can be prevented. Even USA had predicted Nigeria will disintegrate with the coming civil war

if Gowon didn't allow the massacre of Igbo all over the country and had honoured the Aburi accord. there wouldn't have been any war. Ojukwu was a great man to stand up for his people or else they evil northerners and westerners would have taken their genocidal riots into our own land. those calling Ojukwu rash and cowardly are just unrealistic retards
