A lot of us are rejoicing that Buhari was elected president because we think he would cleanse Nigeria of all her problems. A problem with Nigerians is that we rely too much on the president to provide everything for us and transform this country. We pay little attention to some other vital things that matters and key to our development.

Let us assume Buhari will be a good president and he succeeds in putting in place some good policies that started to yield some fruit. Then after his tenure a candidate whom we thought would be the ideal successor was elected into office. This new president finally became very incompetent and introduced some bad policies that saw all the progress made during Buhari's tenure destroyed. The next election comes up and we sacked the bad president and voted in a new one. Things never got better with the new president, corruption and lawlessness came back instead. Considering this sort of scenario it means we would be returning back to square one of the ugly situation of things before Buhari took office. Are we really sure that all it takes to transform this country is just a "good president"? Some developed countries can never slip back to poverty because their government institutions are well structured in a way that no matter who they elect as their leaders things will never get so bad. Even if GEJ leads the U.S or Germany these countries will never become poor or too corrupt. Don't you think we are dangerously placing too much focus on the president and ignoring the loopholes in our system of governance that would make a consistent development difficult?

after buhari have set things aright in eight years of his administration (if God grant him life and good health as we pray for him), there will no more be incompetent President in Nigeria till we get to the level of American Development of which after that, our problem will no longer be infrastructure and electricity but servicing the economy. Then, any asshole can be allowed to rule though he will still be monitored by some advanced Nigerians to make sure he doesn't take us back to the stone age.

His Excellency GEJ will actually be the last clueless man to rule Nigeria.

Sorry but what is really your point? If you are saying we need strong insitutions then I don't think anybody would disagree with you but what has that got to do with Buhari and the vital role a presidency can play in building a country (insitutions or not)? Or are you saying we should have continued with this directionless president?

Goodluck did what Buhari and head of states could not or would not do. He maintained strong Institutions, thats why people call him clueless, his slowly following due process.

We would still find out that GEJ is the worse thing that ever happened to Nigeria, an error we shouldn't in our nightmare pray to ever experience again.
@topic,apart from our heartfelt believe that GMB is the Messiah sent to redeem us from all the terrible years of the GEJ and partly OBJ govts,part of what may come out from his expected terms in office is setting a non negotiable benchmark for requirements for office of the president:integrity,patriotism,vision,unblemished record of service and dedication to service.
Op if d above requirements are d benchmarks we would hopefully demand from contestants for the office after gmb's time,I bet you we would never again have an incompetent,illfitted president; maybe he/she may not meet the lofty heights to be set by GMB, but definitely never again as grossly incompetent as GEJ.
