Abuja - Rivers State governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has denied allegations raised by the All Progressive Congress (APC) he was planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His spokesperson, Simeon Nwakaudu, dismissed the reports.
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Rivers APC in which they claimed that the popularly elected governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON) who will be sworn-in on May 29, 2015 is planning to defect to their party. This is simply a figment of their imagination and deliberate falsehood taken to comic proportion,” Nwakaudu said.
He said Wike was a committed member of PDP and had not entered into any negotiation with the APC with the aim of defecting to the party.
“He got his mandate to lead Rivers State to recovery and redemption on the platform of the PDP and will exercise the mandate on this noble platform. If this is the Rivers APC way of acknowledging that Barrister Wike is the most widely-accepted leader and politician in Rivers State, we advise them to be more courageous by coming forward to congratulate him and accept his offer for them to join his administration to rebuild Rivers State after years of APC misgovernance, maladministration, impunity and failure.”
Wike’s spokesman added that the governor-elect considered the alleged falsehood being spread by the Rivers APC was a disservice to the people of Rivers State.

“In the last few days, the Rivers APC has embraced a funny pastime of spinning all manners of false tales to remain relevant in the polity after their total rejection by the people of Rivers State. Barrister Wike is a political brand built on truth, development, service to the people and commitment to all-round development of Rivers State with an eye for national development centred on the advancement of the country,” said Nwakaudu.
