United kingdom has robust and healthy political system. In recent times, foreigners have been emerging and also winning political seats (including Nigerians). The question now is, can the same happen in Nigeria? Can we accommodate foreigners in our political system in Nigeria?

You don't call a naturalized citizen a foreigner...the example in the ukonly applied to people who are born in the uk or who have spent considerable amount of time in the uk to be considered a citizen...so if two britons gives birth to a child in nigeria...he o she is not a foreigner ..also look at the case of the late yeye osun...susan wenger..who came from austria with husband ulie beir ..she got to one of the highest traditional role of a female godess

I quite agree that you don't call a naturalised citizen a foreigner

But who are we deceiving?

In 2013 nigeria granted citizenship to foreigners which include thailand, chinese etc

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/149191-nigeria-grants-citizenship-174-foreigners.html

And so on and so forth, but can the voting population 'welcome' these naturalized citizens into our political arena?

its an individual thing..some regions will also accept but not all...but I will personally..what I need is action..not sentiment..I would vote out my family if they are not responsible

Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode are foreigners to Lagos and they have been winning elections there.
Even Igbo people are now winning election, again, in Lagos.

^^^Naturalized or not.....you can't contest for election in Nigeria unless you're a shon of de shoil! Having said that, you do stand a fighting chance if you're from Niger or Chad......just appeal to the Northerners religious and tribal sentiments and Bob's your uncle! wink

The question you should be asking is if a Nigerian can win an election in a state other than his/her own. Yet we shamelessly celebrate each time we hear of a Nigerian winning in another country.

I have not actually seen a foreigner who tried and got killed or not even allowed! So, I think somebody should try first and let us see what happens!
Igbos are daring (Im not Igbo), they seem not to beleive in speculations but actions that is why they succeed in many things including involvement in foreign politics!

Ben Bruce just won a Senatorial ticket in the NASS. He's a naturalised Nigerian. No accidental Nigerian unnaturalized could have won a British MP election.

At least no Nigeria village answers Bruce as a local name.
