For the past one month, residents of Ebubu in Eleme LGA of Rivers state where I live have been living in fears and apprehension over the frequent killings, attacks, and robbing by gun men who identified themselves as cultists. It is worrisome and unfortunate that whilst these unscrupulous men carry out their heinous crime against innocent and defenceless citizens, they are unchallenged and unrestrained. Your men in Eleme division have comprised and are accomplice to the crime and it is easy to suspect them of collaborating and aiding the boys. Most of the police officers of the Eleme division have spent more than 10 years in the division, bought land and built houses. They will always work their ways back whenever they are redeployed. They are happy and profiting from the crises as they often arrest innocent people and demand a minimum of 200 thousand naira for bail. In a country where security agents suppose to protect people, the bad boys are having a field day and can shoot to death at whim anyone they don't like their face. Half of the residents of the area have relocated and many more are leaving. In my compound of three flats, I am the only tenant remaining. The police and security agencies should do something.
