Goodluck Jonathan, the outgoing President, explained on May 11, Monday, how the future generations would feel about his administration.

Speaking through Namadi Sambo, Nigeria’s vice president, he noted that the democracy dividends delivered by his cabinet would be appreciated by posterity, The Punch reports.
In particular, the incumbent President enumerated the achievements of his government in economy and power sectors.

“Let me reiterate our firm belief and respect for democracy and its norms and values and our continued commitment to the progress and prosperity of our dear nation.

“To this regard, we shall continue to make our contributions to the development of our dear country as patriotic citizens. We are confident that posterity shall place us on the right side of history.

“I will take this opportunity to also assure all Nigerians that all the decisions and project implementation of both NDPHC and the National Council on Privatisation, all decisions are taken on the basis of sound professional advice and sound decision to ensure that we succeed in Nigeria in providing power successfully for the benefit of the country and our economic development.

Regarding electricity:

“At present, the nation’s power generation level as confirmed by the minister of power is about 6,000MW and we can wheel up to 5,500MW,” he said.

However, the 6,000MW power generating capacity announced by the presidency contradicts the 3,413.1MW recorded as peak power generation as at May 11, 2015, following the official data of the Federal Ministry of Power. This comes days before the power transition scheduled for May 29, 2015. It is believed that dealing with the challenges in power sector will be one of the most important trials for the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

The acting cabinet has already warned Buhari against reversing the privatisation of the power sector carried out by Jonathan’s administration.

In one of the interviews granted after the All Progressive Congress (APC) recorded victory in the just concluded presidential poll, the newly elected leader talked on the performance of privatisation and also questioned the achievements in the power sector under Jonathan’s administration.

Desperately looking for a place in history when he cannot find a place now. Trying to reap where he did not sow. History will never fail to remember you as the most corrupt leader ever!
