Sadly op, your post will be interpreted by many as whiny. African Americans, having lived with the ugliest of racism for quite some time, who have long pointed this out have been accused of harboring a victim's mentality.. Interesting how that makes us the victims yet not the ones who've been conditioned to not see the obvious or those remaining mute and teach their children to play along are somehow not the victims. The world has forced many cultures to modernize to a certain standard but you somehow have a victims mentality by questioning the rules you're forcing others to play including ourselves and our children.

I'd like to add that your post 1) could be said for men except we'd dance by every economic tone they tell us or teach us.. we're often told that following their definition is being 'evolved', stepping away from primitive natures. Black men put a lot of stock in this newly acquired self-perception based on this definitions thats been handed to use. The means is nothing new and has been effectively used on the cultures for centuries. 2)the brainwashing has ran prevalent and unabated long enough to where you cant stop it for many. They'll see you as being weak rather than see the demons that's playing them.

OP is kind of right, women do tend to be more fake and less into tradition than men. I'm not saying that there are men out there who aren't fake, there are. But most women are bandwagoners and just follow the crowd or whatever bull crap the media feeds them. Whether it's trying to sound like an American White girl, or dressing like a bimbo, or not being able to speak their native tongues, not know one thing about their ancestral villages because they spend too much time worrying about the fake and artificial things of life, things won't change.

Also OP, it's not just African women, women from all over the world have issues with self-esteem and how to fit in with society. They all want to fit in badly Walahi. Most women want to be westerners and act like westerners instead of being proud of their traditions and their respective cultures. African men in a way are sort of the cause, not all of us though. When you have some fools placing white and non-black women on higher pedestals, then that's something I also take issue with. We need to respect our own women first and encourage them to keep it real and traditional. Unfortunately this is not going to change soon but it is going to get worst so I guess prepare for it lol.I read an article a couple months ago where Indians are targeting the African market for hair due to the rising middle class etc.I would say a lot of them want to look "fly" in terms of hair how African American women and Europeans are.

The ironic part of it all is that in the west..a lot of black women are jumping on the Natural Hair bandwagon.A lot of companies are shifting their products to cater for the natural hair market.

The problem is further exacerbated when the average Black man doesn't appreciate dark skin,African textured hair etc.Many women are pressured to meet those needs of men lest they be labelled and go man-less.I think it all comes down to upbringing because I have always been proud of my African features due to the household and people I have been surrounded with.

Another hypocritical thread aimed at bashing, once again, the African woman.

@op, first of all, you have to understand that ALL women irrespective of race are never truly satisfied with their looks and thus they all apply make up, add weavons, bleach or tan to change their skin tone, do surgery etc.

Secondly, they do this all to please US the men. You come here acting like its all their fault but have failed to point out that the average Nigerian man prefers a light skinned lady with long hair. To women its all a competetion and since the men are carried away by what they see, women have had to adjust to be at the top of their game.

You should create another thread and try to convince Nigerian men to appreciate black women more. If the men start putting black women with afros above the light skinned ladies with long silky hair then women will adjust. No matter how much they try to hide it, women dress to impress men and are greatly influenced by our preferences.
