yes, I can help you with your blog. My contact details (email/sms/whataspp) are in my signature below.

For the sidebar, your theme has a widget area.... usually called "sidebar". Just drag and drop some widgets there... just like the demo site looks

hello David,

dear sir,

update to your site. Heres a list of what I did.

- deleted duplicate categories, moved articles into proper categories;

- properly re-categorized all articles in uncategorized-category

- cleaned up top menu, created a new one with sub-items.

- contact form added under "About me"

- deleted pages & descriptions you earlier created; I added the page description as category descriptions, since each category will list posts published into that category.

For future use: to add descriptions to categories, goto Posts >> categories, >> click category name and add a description. The description shows on top of all posts in that category.

- added widgets to sidebar and footer areas

- all your posts must be "standard" format for your page titles to show properly. Corrections made on all posts. Titles are now showing properly, just like in the demo site.

- added "related posts" per posts..... is visible on post view

- its nice if your posts have images, I added sample images and readmore tags to the first 2 posts in this category view.

See, it how it looks:

Pls gurus in the house, is it a must to create child theme, before using the theme?

it depends on your definition of "using".

NO, you dont need to create a child theme before using the theme?
download your fancy wp theme, install and activate it, assign widgets to necessary areas, your wp site is up and running.
No issue, case closed.

Yes you need to create a child theme: In what scenarios would you need a child theme?
scene-1:
- if you want to customize the theme itself .... beyond the default.
- if you want to add your own wp-functions which might require theme modification,
- perhaps you just want to make some css changes, etc

Rather than editing several files in the theme and adding your new changes, you can create a child theme, and put all your changes together into the child theme etc. Thus, if the theme is updated, you dont loose your code.

If while working, something goes wrong and your site gets messed up, its easy to disable the child theme and at least restore the site to the main theme. Assuming your code-edits were done in several files, it would be messing trying to think of which code messed up what.

scene2:
- if you want to have color-templates for the same theme. For ex: you could have a child theme with blue template, red, yellow, green, whatever you care about.

scene3:
there are several blank themes online which you can use for coding practice. It just gives you the bare bones, then you have to do the styling yourself, etc.

hi there,

Yes its possible, but would need some tweaking.

why not just use the Mansar-theme, it has a ready made sidebar already: http://demo.webloggerz.com/mansar/
or
Lustrous {http://demo.webloggerz.com/lustrous/} which looks like entrepreneur.com a little.

Hello Kombo. I would like to share a challenge I have with setting up a theme for my Wordpress blog. I tried for hours to customize my Wordpress blog with a theme I downloaded from aThemes.com. It seems Wordpress removed the "Add new" widget on their site. Is this because I am using a free plan or is there a way around it? I need your help guys. I was really frustrated last night. Please help a JJC like me... cry

However, the theme is listed on Wordpress.org and not I also tried going through my wp admin and I got no headway.

How do I signify the name of the author of a post without making them another user.

For instance if I have a writeup from a guest author and I post it on my blog I want the post to show 'by Guest123'.

Right now everything I post signs off as by the username I signed in as.

without making too much changes, just create a Guest user and assign all guest posts to the user. You can as well recognize each author by name below the post separately.

Yes sir, some images could be protected by copyright laws.

just like every photo has an owner.

Meme, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme

why would you start a meme without intending for it to be copied?

Thanks.

1) by using custom scripts
2) put a notice on the sidebar that freeshipping is available for phc and then configure a fee for other states. Mind you, PHC would be excluded in the list of states
