Getting Closer to The Inauguration of A New Democratic Government, I know our expectations are heightening, at least many of us who voted for change. Which pressing issues in Nigeria do you realistically expect change to happen within Buhari's first 100 days in office?

1. Insecurity
2. Corruption
3. Unemployment
4. Sector and Institutional Reforms in Education, Healthcare, Police, PHCN, Judiciary, Anti Corruption Agencies, Civil Service etc.
5. Infrastructure Development
6. Electricity

You may add yours too...

Power electricity.
NEPA or PHCN or IKEDC whatever their moniker or name is has destroyed normalcy here in Ketu.

It just keeps getting worse.

Transformer breaking down endlessly and not being repaired or replaced.

Obviously not 100%, but GMB within 100days can take basic steps to achieving it within....say d next one year.
I hope u realize d importance of electricity in every sector of d economy, both private n public? WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, DEVELOPMENT ELUDES NIGERIA.

Yes I understand. We hope for sincere efforts to take place. It will take some time though to undo some wrongs happening in that sector presently

I totally agree with u. Remember ATIKU didn't really support GMB during his campaign....yet I learnt ATIKU runs d biggest "generator importing" company in Nigeria. I also confirmed this from frds who sell generators in Alaba international mkt.
So GMB has really got a war to fight.

Given the time frame, number 4 is much more realisable. The others would require a much longer period to realise.

With the thousands of issues like this allows over the country, it will take some time o, I expect at least very vibrant leadership at the national and state levels of PHCN to setup communication channels where people can make complaints and get some unit heads questioned about some of these neglect

I completely agree with you on this! Within 3 months, policy changes and reforms are much more achievable, then we can move on from there.

5,000 monthly for the unemployed graduates

24hr Power supply

Making 1dollar = 1Naira

Stabilizing world oil prices single handedly

What comes first should be the jailing of the Jagaban of corruption, most of us would then be convinced the corruption drive is real.

1. Insecurity: I will expect that within the first three months, Boko Haram has become history in our life with probably pockets of small attacks from the terrorists.

2. Corruption: I should expect that many high profile cases of corruption under GEJ (NNPC, subsidy scams, immigration scam, etc) are being seriously dealt with. In addition, GMB/FG must have come up with a clear roadmap on how to fight corruption to a standstill.

3. Unemployment: Within the first 100 days, I expect that GMB and his team will have come out with a marshal plan on how FG intends to create employments for those unemployed. Within this period, the FG should have at least compiled a comprehensive list of unemployed graduates in all the states of the federation.

4. Electricity: Not that I expect any tangible achievement here in 100 days but I will expect clear policy directions on how the govt intends to tackle the electricity problem. At the minimum, how PHCN's privatization was handled should be reviewed to see if any shady deals took place.

I agree with you, No 4 is very meaningfully achievable within a 100 day period. I believe they would have been making draft policy statements and adjustments by now. Cheers!

it shouldn't take sometime for it to improve.

We only get 4-5 hours of electricty only in the midnight nowadays.

It should at least imrpove to 8-10 hours withinbthe 1st hundred days.

Very detailed and honest contribution

On No. 1, I believe that is possible depending on the extent of compromise and corruption within military ranks that would need to be dislodged

On 2, spot on

On 3, very possible to have an idea of the actual number of unemployed persons and their distribution among graduates, undergraduates etc, though I think it may depend on how fast they can come up with identification systems like social security number etc

On 4, I honestly, like you, don't expect much improvement if any, I agree there should be a clear spelt out plan, though if they reverse the privatization, I expect a legal tussle and delays

Thanks for the wonderful contribution

And most of our expectations will largely depend on who is in charge of what.

A Fashola in Power ministry will mean that we can eagerly look forward to quick result.

A Falana in Justice ministry means that the reform in the judiciary to tackle corruption can happen earlier than expected too.

All in all, round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes will determine how soon or otherwise results will flow in.

My conviction is in the terms of reference GMB handed down to his TC where he stated ".... come up with recommendations such that Nigerian will see change in 30 days, 100 days and six months of the new administration". This gives an indication and impression of someone who knows that he has to deliver.

May God help him and his incoming team.
Re: What Comes First In Your Checklist For Buhari's 100 Days In Office? by socialmediaman: 11:55am On May 17, 2015
Well stated. I hope and believe Osinbajo being a professional will be very active in championing the judicial reforms. The funny thing is, these systems are already existing elsewhere, we're not inventing new ideas, just borrow, fine tune to suit your environment, and apply. Technology and communication sector needs a very active reformers to resolve our zip code and e-commerce challenges, being locked out by organizations like PayPal prevents e-business Nigerians from participating in that sector, infact we need a well funded technology sector, like what we have at Silicon Valley, maybe a Bank of Industry equivalence dedicated to technology startups, I need not talk much about agric, we're making progress but we need more investment too. SME sector too must not be neglected, it should be invested in more because it looks like Nigerians are thriving well in that sector
