Yar’adua Proposes Pay Cut For Public Officials by freelance(m): 10:22pm On Feb 10, 2009 |
President Umaru Yar’Adua has proposed a pay cut for public office-holders, in response to the global economic crisis. A statement by his spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, on Tuesday said the President would write the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission to consider the proposal, because the current remunerations were untenable and unjustifiable in the present circumstances. Addressing ministers, special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants in the Presidency at a meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Yar’Adua said he expected public officials to put the interest of the nation first at all times. Feingold heads US Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs, to focus on Nigeria Democratic Senator Russ Feingold has been reselected as the Chairman, United States Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs for the fifth year. Feingold, who has been a member of the subcommittee for 17 years, has outlined his priorities to include examining ways to balance US military partnerships in Africa with support for civilian institutions and conflict prevention, piracy, the rule of law, terrorism, renewable energy, health challenges and food insecurity. His spokesperson, Zach Lowe, said in a statement, that the subcommittee would pay particular attention to Nigeria, Somalia, the broader Horn of Africa, the Sahel region, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Zimbabwe. I think Yar'Adua seems to know what he is doing Let's give him a chance http://punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200902102039998 |
