Turn A Lemon Into Lemonade And Smile All The Way To The Bank.

History and the facts of life has shown that there are two types of personalities at work in people at any given time. The first personality, is the optimist, who sees opportunities in any situation. He are she will find creative ways to turn these self created opportunities into long lasting benefits to help themselves and their families financially. An optimist will always see a glass of water that is not filled up, as half full. The second personality, is the pessimist, who will find something negative, and bad about every situation and everything. A pessimist, is quick to criticize, condemn, put down and will describe a glass of water that is filled, as half empty. This analogy is alive an well in Nigeria in all situations, but more pronounced as it relates to Nollywood movies.

It is time for Nigerians to wake up and appreciate the great opportunities they have by making the best of it. The facts and comments by many Nigerians indicates that many Nigerians regard Nollywood movies as "crap" or "garbage." Nigerians have been conditioned to appreciate foreign movies made in Hollywood, and Bollywood, more than their very own Nollywood movies. The fact also show that piracy, and a lack of effective distribution system is robbing the actors, actresses, producers, directors, and investors in these movies millions of dollars in lost revenues. The fact also shows that the very Nigerians who are very critical and ashamed of Nollywood movies don't understand how much work, time, money, and effort it takes to produce these movies which are referred to, as a piece of "crap" and "garbage." The existence of the movie industry in Nigeria, affectionately called: Nollywood, is a monumental achievement and a National treasure, which should be supported, respected and encouraged to grow positively, instead of putting it down. In fact, Nollywood movies are respected, embraced more and appreciated more outside Nigeria, and in the diaspora, than Nigerians at home. And don't forget that Nollywood is the #2 movie producer in the world, by volume. Bollywood is #1 (Indian movies), and Hollywood is #3 (movies produced in USA). Nigerians should be very proud of this achievement instead of disrespecting Nollywood movies and the efforts of all those who make it work. This is a very sad state of events. It should not be like that at all.

The extraordinary levels of piracy, is also a sign of the total disregard and a lack of consideration for the work and efforts of the actors, actresses, directors, producers, and investors in Nollywood movies. The very severe economic hardships in Nigeria also contributes to the excessive levels of piracy. These deep and serious problems that cannot not be solved overnight, but there are some small baby steps that can take place starting now, that will lead to a positive improvement and a correction of these problems. These suggested solutions are listed below:

1. Respect the hard work, efforts, and dedication of Nollywood actors, actresses, directors, producers, and investors, by not being a part of the piracy problem.
2. You should start to make money from Nollywood movies legitimately, by buying these movies in quantities at a reasonable discount price from approved sellers or distributors only, and resell the movies to your neighbors, people in your community who don't know about these movies and how interesting they are. Promote the movies by word of mouth, leave copies with your trusted neighborhood store or a local trader, and pay them a small fee for holding and selling these Nollywood videos for you. If you do this properly, and take it seriously, you can bring in steady reasonable income from Nollywood movies. You can start with investing in 50 or 100 videos. See how it goes, them you can order more videos. Your friends, co-workers, and neighbors are your potential customers. But you must tell them to come to you for all their Nollywood movies needs. Yes, You can do this, if you stop whining, complaining, and putting down Nollywood movies. You can make a lot of money doing this.
