Not less than forty-four physically challenged persons in Kuchingoro community in Abuja Municipal Area council of the FCT have been presented with fifty simplified wheel chairs by Dr.
Omanudhowho Kennedy, a Batch ‘B’ serving corps member in the FCT.

The donation, which was part of the corps member’s personal project under the Community
Development Service programmes of the NYSC
scheme, was enhanced by Grace Hope International to make life more meaningful and easier to the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr. Omanudhowho the initiator of the project, said the project was borne out of love and compassion he developed as a result of an ugly experience he encountered during one of the outreaches he participated in a community in Bayelsa State.

He said the donation of the wheelchairs is the
first phase of the project which would be followed
by a one-week free medical, surgical, dental and
optometry treatments in two rural settlements of
Kuchigoro and Kabusa and other surrounding communities with about 40 health personnels participating.

Dr. Kennedy expressed appreciation to NYSC management for providing the platform for him to carry out the project, as well as the Vision Centre, WOTCLEF and other groups and individuals who contributed immensely to the realization of the project.

Earlier, Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumni, described the gesture as another milestone in the scheme’s social empowerment strategy aimed at enhancing the
living standard of members of the host communities.

The DG who was represented by the Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects, Bose Okakwu, said the project which is in line with one of the goals of the CDS, is highly commendable and worthy of emulation by other
corps members.

Also speaking, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Olanipekun Alao, called for more support from the
host communities to the corps members who he said are full of ideas and potentials that could transform societies if supported, even as he expressed optimism on the positive impact the
gifts would have on the beneficiaries.
