Ahmed Lawan, a senator representing Yobe central, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for senate president of the 8th national assembly.
Also, George Akume (Benue) is the party’s consensus candidate for deputy senate president.
Barnabas Gemade, serving senator and senator-elect, made the announcement at the two-day retreat for APC senators-elect in Abuja on Saturday.
“We, the senate unity forum comprising senators-elect from various zones of Nigeria, have met, held extensive discussions and resolved to support senator Ahmed Lawan as senate president and senator George Akume as deputy senate president of the 8th senate,” Gemade said.
“Kindly take this to be our collective decision in the best interest of our party, APC, and our dear nation, Nigeria.”
However, an aspirant, Bukola Saraki, from Kwara state, has however denied that a consensus candidate has been picked by the party through his twitter @bokulosaraki

Saraki is just pained..let's disregard his tweets denying Ahmed lawan as their consensus candidate.

So what will happen to the jobless man trekking to show support for saraki? Will he stop trekking or finish what he has started? I heard another sycophant is on his way to mecca to pray for saraki to become senate president.. Chai! See as God fall pple hand.

We are watching how the drama will eventually end. Saraki is not a politician to be taken for granted. APC may end up biting more than they can chew. I wish they had allowed the senators elect their leaders. The should know that PDP is part of the senate and with a formidable number to make Saraki or someone else that is not Lawani smile to the highly coveted seat of the senate president.

Saraki is not acceptable as our Senate president. He has this cloud of corruption all over him. It does not bode well for Saraki to be our Senate president.

It is all still a rumour, I really doubt if lawan can be a consensus candidate, Bukola saraki has all what is mouth watering for these senators, they know with bukola saraki there would be more 'food on their table', besides saraki has much more influence than any of the contending senators. Guys tilt your seat, sit back, and watch in 3D how bukola will wriggle in to be the senate president...#my opinion, am not in support of any1.
