As an experienced farmer that have consulted and help set-up.plantain farm for over 50 new and established farm enterprises this year alone, i can authoritatively tells you that the one of the challenges many intending and even established plantain farmers have is not able to tell accurately which land to use for production. Plantain is such a sensitive crop that require fertile land to thrive well in order for it to produce good yield. Cultivating plantain in any kind of land may not get you result that you wanted. A loamy humus soil is the best for plantain and the question is how do.you know that a land will.be good.for plantain.cultivation. I can tell from mere looking at a land whether its good or.not but for intending farmers just starting,i will recommend soil testing. In my future articles,i will tell how you can carry out a simple.soil test without the rigorous activities involve in carrying out a normal typical test. Due to our nature of soil in Nigeria,an acre of land may have different soil type which requires different fertilisation during the production process. Even if the soil is blackish,it does not mean that its suitable for plantain. Get good fertile land and every other things will fall in place. To be continued... 1 Like |

Your cost of production can be reduced by 30% if you use good land for plantain farming translating into more profit for you. That's why I have made the effort to get fertile land and go extra length to test the soil for confirmation. 80 acres of land is available only for plantain farming business in ogbomoso @70k/acre. |
