Three feared killed in Ogun bank robbery Wednesday

THE Director General of the National Automotive Council (NAC), Alhaji Aminu Jalal says that with sufficient commitment, a Nigerian car is feasible by 2017.


A bank worker, a student and a policeman were on Wednesday feared dead when daredevil armed robbers struck at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) Micro-Finance Bank.

During the operation, which reportedly lasted for just 30 minutes, the bandits having held customers in the bank hostage, began shooting, leading to the death of a female staff of the bank and a male student of UNAAB.

The late policeman was killed while driving into the bank premises. Apparently trying to prevent him from hindering them from operating, they reportedly shot him right inside his car.

The hoodlums reportedly left the bank, located at Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta, near the Government House, after operating successfully.

An eye witness account told The Guardian that the bandits, "riding in a jeep and a salon car" arrived at the bank at about 10 a.m and immediately shot the policeman dead after which they fired several shots into the air to scare away people, adding that "the female staff, sensing danger attempted to carry the money at the counter and rush it into the vault but in the process the robbers saw her and shot her dead," the eye witness stated.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Dipo Ayeni, while confirming the incident, said he was on his way to assess the situation.
