Thank God! At last Nigeria shall be free from the vicious and choking grip of all manner of rogues and kleptomaniacs who managed to cash in on the dysfunctionality of the Nigerian state to come into power!Nigeria has been gripped in a suffocating grip of death by corrupt and unpatriotic rulers for decades, and because of that, the country's quest for progress, prosperity and development has been frustrated over the years. What we kept having were viciously hungry and selfish rulers who preferred to serve themselves instead of the country, and this has culminated in the hunger and passion for positive change by most Nigerians, and this is how and why Nigerians overwhelmingly entrusted their mandate to General Muhammadu Buhari to lead them out of the suffocating grip of the criminals that hitherto held sway!Precisely before noon on Friday, May 29, 2015, General Buhari will be sworn in as the country's Executive President and Commander - in - Chief of the Armed Forces by the sweet grace of God, and that's when the much anticipated journey from the negative past into a positive beginning will commence, and it is therefore pertinent that we set our agenda for him, or rather what we expect his government to do for us in addition to whatever brilliant ideas he has.My shopping list for General Muhammadu Buhari's government is this:1. The 40 billion dollars purportedly spent by the PDP on electricity must be recovered, for there is nothing on ground to suggest that any money was spent on any public electricity in Nigeria except darkness and nonfunctional power plants!2. The various PDP regimes have purportedly given out licensesto private firms and individuals for the building of crude oil refineries, which have not been built. They have also severally claimed that they will build new government owned refineries and have even set apart some huge sums for that but they have not built anything of the sort. In fact, they have not bothered to build even a groundnut oil refinery in place of crude oil refineries in the country! We expect Buhari's government to lookinto this very well!3. Again, it is probably ordained by God that it is General Buhari that will be building oil refineries for Nigeria. As Minister of Petroleum during the years of military rule, he built the second oil refinery in Port Harcourt, and thereafter built the Warri and Kaduna refineries plus many oil depots across the country. Since that time till now no additional refinery has been added to boost our domestic consumption, and the successive corrupt regimes have even deliberately refused to maintain the ones built by him so that they could continue giving licenses to their friends and family members to be importing refined petroleum products. Well, it is just fit and proper that General Buhari has already indicated interest to build more refineries across the nation, and this will automatically halt this fraudulent importation of petroleum products as well as crash their retail prices drastically! This is commendable.4. Of course, General Buhari has repeatedly said he will probe certain well known cases of huge sums of money known to have been stolen. There is no need for me to restate it here as a demand, but it definitely means the trio of Goodluck Jonathan, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Diezani Allison-Maduekemust be promptly arrested by the EFCC to explain the circumstances under which trillions of naira of public funds got looted under their watch!5. Most importantly, "Boko Haram" must be comprehensivelyinvestigated, and this will require demanding from President Jonathan and anybody that has ever served as a military or security chief under him to explain how and why "Boko Haram" got armour tanks, helicopters, Anti-Aircraft Guns, military trucks, military uniforms and easy access through all military checkpoints in northern Nigeria. They must also explain how they spent the 33 billion dollars (4 trillion naira) they claimed to have spent on fighting "Boko Haram" but yet it was "Boko Haram" that became stronger and better equipped!6. The huge sums purportedly spent on road constructions throughout the country must also be investigated and recovered because the roads are still as rough as Asari Dokubo's voice and beard!7. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be fully empowered to implement the full electoral reforms started by Professor Attahiru Jega. We want INEC to go the whole hog into electronic voting so that electoral malpractices of any kind will be completely banished!8. General Buhari should initiate a Bill seeking the removal of the immunity from prosecution clause out of the Nigerian constitution, for that clause has not helped the cause of accountability and probity among Nigeria's leaders at all. Ratherthey have hidden behind that immunity clause to loot, and loot, and loot the country blind knowing full well that they wouldn't be arrested and prosecuted for stealing and corruption. As recent as 2013 we have seen a Governor in the United States of America arrested and handcuffed out of his official residence bythe FBI over charges of receiving bribes. So, why can't we?There could be more on the table but I trust the sense of integrity and patriotism of General Muhammadu Buhari to implement them and many others. And we will also continue to use this medium and other channels to make sure he works as anticipated.Congratulations, Nigeria!
