The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa‘ad Abubakar, is expected to travel to England today (Sunday) as a special guest of Prince Charles, who is also known as the Prince of Wales.
The visit is on the invitation of Prince Charles.
”This is intended as a courtesy visit,” said a spokesperson from the Sultanate. ”It will also help to reinforce the positive relationship between the Sultanate and the English monarchy.”
The spokesman said the visit will enable both royal personages to rub minds and exchange ideas representing royalties of two sovereign nations. They are expected to deliberate on matters of world peace, cultural cooperation and religious harmony.
When Abubakar visited England last year, he delivered lectures at Oxford University and the diplomatic hall of the Chattam House.
He also sat at the gallery of the British Parliament when the Prime Minister was in session to field questions from the members of the parliament.
Abubakar was also a guest of a number of British personalities, including Lord Malloch-Brown.
”That visit was in recognition of the Sultan‘s desire for world peace, cultural harmony and religious understanding,” said the spokesman.
The Sultan will be accompanied on his trip by the Galadima Sokoto, Alhaji Isa Bajini, Serikin Kudu, Muazu Abubakar and Kogunan Sokoto, Alhaji Danladi Bako.
They are expected back in Nigeria at the weekend.
