NCS Advises NAC On Abandoned Vehicles On Nigerian Roads. by MotoringNigeria: 7:37am On Jun 05, 2015
The Nigeria Customs Service has called on the National Automotive Council to work out the technology that will convert all abandoned vehicles littering the nation’s roads into something useful.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, said this through the Assistant Comptroller General, Tariff & Trade, Banke Adeyemo, at a forum in Lagos. The forum, which focused on the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan was organised by NAC in conjunction with Ships & Ports Communication Company. It was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, freight forwarding associations, importers and auto dealers.

Abdullahi said, “Nigeria has got huge quantities of scrap; there are so many abandoned vehicles along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. Since metal scrap is prohibited from being exported, NAC can set up a structure for the use of the scrap in the auto policy. “The implementation of government’s fiscal policies rests on the NCS. However, Nigeria’s border is vast and securing it is no easy task. That is why the NCS now has a coordinated border structure in place which includes the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Police Force and some other government agencies to help protect our borders. ”He added that as part of the efforts to curtail smuggling, the NCS had gone into partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure that only vehicles that had paid their customs duty would be registered.
