Senator Bukola Saraki has emerged as the Senate President.

He was elected unopposed following a deal he entered into with the Peoples Democratic Party Senators.

Under the arrangement, former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, is to be returned to the same office.

Saraki was nominated for the office by Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, former Zamfara State governor. Both Saraki and Yerima are of the All Progressives Congress.

Sensing defeat, the other APC Senators had declined to nominated Senator Ahmed Lawan, the official candidate of the party for Senate President.

As exclusively reported by WESTERN POST on Monday, Saraki’s election was a replay of what happened on the floor of the same during the country’s renascent democracy when Senator Evans Enwerem was elected on the strength of the votes of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) Senators as opposed to Senator Chuba Okadigbo, the official candidate of the PDP.

There has been a raging controversy in the APC over the candidacy of Senator Saraki who defied the party’s order to Support Senator Lawan.
