Information reaching me from a friend serving in Zaki-Biam, Benue State has it that the town has been under military siege since early hours of today.


According to the story, yesterday a soldier was killed by a gang of armed robbers and his gun collected by the gang. Following the incidence, several troops of soldiers were dispatched to the town from 82 Armour Division, Makurdi.

They have been shooting since morning and all commercial activities in the town brought to a halt. It would be recalled that a similar incidence occurred in Zaki-Biam in 2001 when the Tivs and Jukun in Taraba State had a communal clash resulting in the death of some soldiers.


The Nigerian Army under the watch of Olusegun Obasanjo despatched soldiers to that town where thousands of lives and properties worth billions of naira were destroyed without compensation paid to the innocent and law abiding citizens until this day.



The friend is indeed living in fear as no one is allowed to leave the town. I hope the authorities concerned get to read this or hear about it and call them to order to forestall any barbaric act of killing innocent people.



Let them look for the criminals / armed robbers and leave the innocent people alone.
