It’s the Koko Master D’Banj’s birthday
today. The DB Records boss is a force to
reckon with when it comes to music in
Nigeria.
With lovely hits after hits and several awards to
show for his laudable contributions, we take a
look at the 10Things you didn’t know about
D’Banj
D’banj was born in Zaria, Kaduna State,
Northern Nigeria, but his parents are Yorubas
from Ogun State.
D’banj wanted to study Mechanical Engineering
when he got to London in 2001, but he
suspended it to pursue a career in music.
D’banj once worked as a security guard in
London. In 2001, he had to take up a security
guard job in other to make ends meet.
He was introduced to Harmonica which he now
plays quite well by his brother, Femi Oyebanjo,
who died at age 17 in a plane crash.
The first interview that was meant to introduce
him to his American audience was conducted by
BET’s April Woodard.
D’banj’s first endorsement came just after he
released his first album. It was an energy drink
called Power Fist.
D’banj is the first Nigerian to be the United
Youth Ambassador for Peace.
Since his rise to stardom, Nollywood actress,
Genevieve Nnaji, is the first woman he made
public declaration of love for.
D’banj signed to GOOD Music 3years ago. On
June 9, 2011, D’banj wrote on his twitter
account “Just like yesterday, myself and my
brother did Tongolo, 7years later, Mo’Hits signs
with Good Music. Best birthday gift ever. Then
the famous Mo’Hits break happened shortly
after.
D’Banj is the first Nigerian Music Star to bring an
array of foreign acts to perform in Nigeria at his
concert “Koko Concert”
