*not so sure if it is called trunks. But permit me to use it for want of a more perfect fitting noun for the out-fit.

In time gone by, goal-keepers stood between the sticks in tight long trunks that looked pretty much like a female 'legies'/'long skin-tight'. I remember peter rufai had one on those days. But in recent times, such trunks seem to have become a relic of the past. Goal-keepers are now putting on shorts like other players. And this sprout quite a few questions.
What happened? Did fifa ban it? Or was it the goal-keepers who felt those tight long trunks made them look quite effeminate and had stopped putting it on to keep gays at bay?

I remember those days...but it was mostly an African goalkeepers thing; maybe a fad that faded away cos even Rufai later switched to shorts by USA 94/France 98 time but I don't think it was banned as that Saudi keeper Al-Deayea or what is his name, wore them till he retired

there have been different fads that came and went away, i remember back in the days in nigerian league when players used to tie hankerchief around their neck
