The 24 elected members of the Abia
State House of Assembly were today
inaugurated to usher in the 6th
Assembly of the state government with
the Speaker and Deputy speaker
elected to pilot its affairs.
The event had people from all works of
life in attendance to witness the
ushering in of the legislature for q new
dispensation in Abia State. At the
hallowed chambers of the Abia State
House of Assembly, the inauguration of
the 6th Assembly commenced with a
proclamation by the Abia State
governor,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as was
read by the clerk of the House, John
Pedro-Iwekaisi.
This followed the nomination for the
office of the Speaker which saw the
member representing Isialangwa North
State Constituency, Hon. Martins
Azubuike,nominated and elected
unopposed. The Speaker consequently
took the oath of allegiance as
administered by the clerk.
The nomination to the office of the
Deputy Speaker came next, with
Cosmos Ndukwe of the Peoples
Democratic Party representing Bende
North Local Government Area and Ikedi
Ezekwesiri of the All Progressives
Grand Alliance,representing
Umunneochi were both nominated for
the seat,but Cosmos Ndukwe emerged
winner with 13 votes against
Ezekwesiri’s 9 votes and two invalid
votes.
Cosmos Ndukwe took the oath of
office.After the inauguration of the 6th
Assembly,the speaker, Martins
Azubuike, in his inaugural speech
thanked God and his colleagues for the
privilege to serve,while reminding them
of the task ahead. He assured Abians
of a robust house and quality
representation.
The plenary was later moved to
reconvene on June 15th.
With the legislature now in place,it is
expected that Abians will experience
good governance and dividends of
