I”l start with a definition.
A permalink is a URL that points to a specific webpage, often a blog or forum entry which has passed from the front page to the archives, or the result of a search in a database.

WHY DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY PERMALINK URL STRUCTURE?
*shorter permalink structure URL gives you more audiences insight.
*Visitors gets upset by long permalink structure URL.
*it can be really unfriendly.
*You keep getting dropped

I”l give a brief example. A visitor visits a search engine portal to find a solution online. probably URLs that appears on front page are all written 2years back or more. And luckily your website URL is on front page. Changes may occur that the visitor might not even click on your website Why? cause of your long permalink URL.
Example
http://www.yourwebsite.com/2012/02/12/Hot-post-info/ Or
http://www.yourwebsite.com/2012/02/Hot-post-info/

To make them believe your contents are informative change the permalink. According to search engine [S.E] experts the best permalink URL structure for WordPress is the Post name. For doesn’t who don’t no where to locate permalink goto your SETTINGS and click on PERMALINK and all you have to do it change it to POST NAME.

FIXING PERMALINK REDIRECTION ERROR

After you’ve change your permalink structure and your WordPress doesn’t redirect old URLs to new ones. Then you can try disabling all the plugins to see. If the issue still occurs try to add these code to you .htaccess file It should be above.
