It is unlikely that South Africa will face sanctions
for allowing Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir to
leave in defiance of a court order.
The African Union (AU) had taken a decision not
to execute the warrant for Mr Bashir's arrest,
accusing the International Criminal Court (ICC) of
being biased against African leaders.
So as things stand, Mr Bashir appears to have
left South Africa with the blessing of the AU.
On Sunday, a South African court gave an interim
order, preventing Mr Bashir from leaving until a
final ruling was made on whether he should be
arrested to stand trial at the ICC on genocide and
war crimes charges over the conflict in Darfur.
The court case is still continuing, with no official
confirmation from the South African government
that Mr Bashir has flown out.
