The president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ayo Orisejafor is still at loggerheads with the Lagos State government over planned demolition of his church located at Victoria Island.

In the suit instituted by the World of Life Bible Church, Orisejafor is asking the court to restrain Lagos State government from demolishing the church.

Justice  Deborah Oluwayemi has directed parties in the suit to approach the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development over the delay in issuing building permit to the church.

At the resumed hearing of the suit, state counsel, Mr. A O Idowu, urged the court to grant a short adjournment to enable him visit the ministry of Physical Planning along with the claimant’s lawyer.

He told the court that essence of the visit would be to ascertain why the ministry refused to issue building permit to the church even though necessary fees had been paid.

But, Mr. Kayode Bankole  counsel to the church told the court that while his client is not averse to the visit, the claimant had made all necessary moves to find amicable solution to the matter but the state had refused to respond positively.

However, Justice Oluwayemi directed that parties should go to the ministry and adjourned the matter till July 16 for continuation of Case Management Conference (CMC).

The claimant  wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, servants, officers, privies or whosoever from demolishing, destroying, dispossessing or forcibly ejecting the claimant from, or continuing to take steps or in any other manner engaging in any activity detrimental or inimical or contrary to the rights of ownership or possession of the claimant in respect of the land.

The Church is also seeking for an order compelling the defendants to issue without delay necessary building development permit to it having fulfilled all necessary steps expected including payment of required fees.

Oritsajefor is also asking the court to compel the State government to refund without delay the sum of N3, 057, 056 being money paid in excess for issuance of building.

The agency must do it's job regardless of who owns a building or what purpose the building serves. As the Bible says give unto Caesar what is Caesars. He should go to court and if he wins good if not he should let the agency do it's job
