Is RMAFC truly an Independent Commission?
Nigerians were greeted with another shock of their lives when it was announced few days back that the National Assembly are to receive N8.64 billion Wardrobe allowance. Nigerians reacted sternly by erring their views and emotions on Social Media by strongly condemning the proposed action.
The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Is charged with the responsibility of determining the remuneration appropriate to political office holders, including the President, Vice-President, Governors, Deputy Governors, Ministers, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Legislators and the holders of the offices mention in Section 84 and 124 of the Constitution;
IT’S AUTONOMY STATUS:
The Commission is an autonomous body and is not subject to the direction or control of any other authority or person in the exercise of its power to make appointments or to exercise disciplinary control over persons.
BOARD COMPOSITION:
The Chairman heads the commission. It has a board comprising a member from each State of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. It also has the management comprising the senior staff that undertakes the regular civil service routines.

From the above we can infer that the commission has been given the power of independence to determine remunerations and sharing formulas of political office holders and we can strongly assume that the composition of board members are people who have been carefully selected maybe as a result of their enlightenment, exposure and skill of sound judgment, from the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
Now the Big question here is how a group of Learned, enlightened and educated individuals approve such extravagant allocation of wealth to legislatures considering the dwindling and plummeting economic challenges we as a country are presently facing? Are they not reasonable enough to see the plight of Nigerians? Does this looks like a rational Decision? It is evident that the commission has compromised its standards, impaired its Independence and adulterated its autonomy to the detriment of Nigeria and Nigerians as a whole.
It is so unfortunate and shameful that a set of 469 members swallow over 20% of the Nigerian Budget. This is ‘daylight robbery’. Robbing Nigerians in the Broad daylight.
If truly we need a CHANGE in this new dispensation and intend to eliminate corruption, I implore the Federal Government to kindly review this Policy on allocation. This CHANGE has to start from our Legislative arm of Government. The National Assembly should no Longer be seen as an avenue for enriching personal pocket but a place to task the mind in order to come up with quality laws that will enhance the Standard of living of the people. #OccupyNass
