As much as I detest sounding rude to authorities (particularly that of Islaam). And as I do solemnly abide by whatever the Sultọọn announces, with all due respect I'll say he ought to have announced yesterday, being 29th of Sha`baan (16th of June), that since the crescent was not sighted, sha`baan will be completed as thirty today and tomorrow 18th of June thereby would be the first of Rọmadhọọn. That would have enabled the Muslims generally to observe the Tarọọweeh this night. The Saudi Arabia did the announcement yesterday. It has not been comfortable for me since I have been hearing it that 17th of June, today as they claim is counted as 29th of Sha`baan again. It shows how much we have neglected the sunnah. The sunnah is to search for all the twelve crescents in a year to ensure proper up to date follow up and not just for Rọmadhọọn, Shawwaal and Dhul Hijjah. I swear by The One in Whose Hand my soul is, myself and some brothers sighted the second day moon after Sọlaat ulmaghrib on the 19th of May when I was still in my hometown and it lasted quite long before it faded off. Unless anyone will convince me it was the crescent we sighted. In essence, 19th of May should be the first of Sha`baan and if we backdate today to 19th of May we will eventually arrive at thirty. So I insist 17th of June can NEVER be 29th of Sha`baan. Although I do not support those that observed their Tarọọweeh this night but they might not be wrong if their intention before performing it was based on the fact that 17th of June is 30th of Sha`baan and not 29th. Conversely I, myself had to beg my brothers in the Masjid that we will not, since the Sultọọn has not announced, even though I believe we are already in the night of Rọmadhọọn and tomorrow will be the first of Rọmadhọọn. |

THINGS TO BE AVOIDED DURING RAMADAAN 1. Don't sleep during the day and pray all night. By doing this you are converting the day into night and the night into day, which is not the purpose of fasting. 2. Avoid being lazy and inactive during the day. 3. Don't waste time on social networks and playing games. Rather, please Allah by increasing in your worship of him. 4. Avoid having Iftar parties. Ramadaan wasn't meant to be a food extravaganza. 5. Don't ask your wife to spend Ramadaan in the kitchen. Eat something light and quick. 6. Spend the last 10 days and nights worshiping Allah rather than trying to prepare for Eid! A night that is better than a thousand months is in these last 10 days. You can't afford to miss this. 7. Don't stay awake the full night. Your body has a right over you, and when it wants rest, then rest. 8. Avoid excessive socialising after Taraweeh. 9. Avoid shopping a lot in Ramadaan. 10. Don't eat the full night. 11. Don't loiter around at night, rather spend that time in worshiping Allah. 12. Eid doesn't require loads of preparation. Don't fall into this trap! Keep it simple, and it will be blessed.
