I told my mechanic last year that I was going to buy a 2003 corolla but the guy advised me against buying the ride. His reasons were that the car is not so strong coupled with the fact that the parts are expensive. Anyway I didn't listen to him as I went ahead and bought it having studied the car very well.
I have used the car for more that a year, going to two and now understands why mechanics will not advise you to buy it. Apart from normal servicing, I have never visited the mechanic for any other fault. The other day I saw my mechanic and he was lamenting that he has not seen me this year, 'abi you wan make hunger kill me' . Who is ever happy visiting a mechanic, doctor or police.
The miles per gallon of the corolla is very much okay and I must say that it is the best car I have ever used.

my brother, if you have not used this car it is difficult to understand the durability of the Corolla.

I must also add that this car is like a taxi in my house, makes an average of 50km a day due to the distance of my work place. Besides my siblings also use the car.

True talk. I've used the 05 corolla for almost 2yrs now and in that time I've only changed brake pad twice and done routine servicing. I no dey near mechanic. Infact the oil change has been in the fuel station.

Chibabe, I bought one for my wife two years ago and have had peace since then. She had used other cars before now and I can't remember the number of times she abandoned the car on the road. It is always my duty to pick up the car with a mechanic.
Not sure I will buy any other car for her apart from a Corolla.

I was actually using a camry before going for the Corolla but I must say that the difference is 7up. This car is rugged and mine was accidented before I bought it (though I wasn't aware, found out later) but still the car is pocket-friendly.

okay, didn't know that it stopped at 2008... great ride my brother. Not sure if the 2009 models are as durable.

They're still good. Just our el-mechos don't know how to maintain them.

In Kubwa, a police patrol use a 2009-2010 model corolla, and they've killed the little car. They always over load the rear seat with 4 ekelebes, the body has received more bashing than a panel beater's anvil, bumper has been torn and stitched over and over till its deformed, headlamp and tail lamp no longer exist on that car, car now smokes a bit, paint job is faded, yet its still being used.

You can't try that with a honda civic or Nissan sentra and not get seriously bitten.

I am NOT over hyping any car maker. However, let's say it as it is. That 2009-2011 model of toyota are built well. If I didn't see it I won't say so. Why aren't Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra?

I personally think that all Corolla model years are durable and reliable . Toyota was highly ranked alongside Honda for reliability and durability in many of its vehicles.

I've been driving mine for more than 3 years '05. Never been to a mechanic workshop. When I tell people that I don't have mechanic, they find it hard to believe, twice the check engine light came up. I scanned the car by my self, read the code and found out that some fuel attendants do not close the fuel tank properly after selling fuel, this always lead to EVAP bla bla thereby triggering check engine. Asides that "mai Toyota est fanstique" 4k and you have a full tank. Lagos to any part in the southwest, the car gulps less than half tank. Changed my break pad and air filter just twice in 3 years.

Extremely true. I have a Camry personally and I have never experienced any major issues. My next car will also be a Toyota, most likely another Camry.

Another good thing about Toyota Vehicles is that they stay driving well (like the first day you purchased them). It's just amazing.

I have seen a brother in the game, I use pencil now bought muscle (spider), people were yabbing me that must it be Camry every time? now I see someone who sees same thing I see in that car, using for over 5yrs never opened the engine and trust me this car don waka over 250k millage, body still clean.

It's a reliable car. People forget that a car is not supposed to hassle you or give you problems. Gets you from point A to point B in a reliable fashion. I personally don't worry about what others think.

I used the Toyota corolla 2007 for 4 years without any problem. I drove from Kaduna to Maiduguri a couple of times. The parts I have changed were the brake pads, air filter, the 2 front shock absorbers and the kick starter.

I have always known that the fun of having a car is that you don't have to consult your mechanic each time you are planning to travel, 'Kasim, do you think this car will take me to Ibadan and back'. . My brother almost fought with his mechanic when his ride broke down on the way to Onitsha despite the assurance from his mechanic.

Now you guys make me see more reasons to keep to my 03 Corolla sport. Mine will be 2 years in 2months time. Menh, the car strong o despite the fact that I bought a Nigerian used. Apart from changing the front shocks cos of my bad roads coupled with that if radiator and hub, the car has been indeed fantastic!

a friend once told me that every family should have a corolla. You can still have other car(s) but corolla can be the 'taxi' in the house.

I think of The Corolla as more of the economical efficient car for Toyota.

If you want more luxury you should go for at least a Camry. Lexus/Toyota build some amazing cars. My Camry for example has navigation, wood trim, HID headlamps and a fantastic audio system
