Guys, my international advisor don kill her self oooo at 11th hour angry angry angry  After long waiting for the I-20 so that I ask for expedited date, it finally come with mistakes.
She put first name as last name vice versa and wrong sponsor. I guess she did that because she once told me last 2 week that my application got through to them from WES extremely late.

And I have asked the other school that gave me admission to defer their own till spring in preference to this one that gave me admission with graduate assistantship. I don vex wrote her 5 long paragraph dissatisfaction mail in return sa ooooo. F. U. C. K her! She will soon wake up to get that. She is the first international advisor I will see that is not ready return to mails, else, I would have detected this long had it being she did like the other school that mailed me the scanned copy when I requested.

Now, should I ask her to defer their own till spring too because international students are expected to be on campus for orientation not later than August 10 or still risk the much rush now? Spring! Isn't it too far?

Lying is the hardest circumstances to defend effectively unless you are good in it. So, whats the crime in saying 1 which you can defend perfectly expect you got your admission through the help of agent. Think about that.

Hello Everyone,

Please I need an advise from anyone who knows about US visa regulations and Immigration Statistic.

I was approved a US student visa in Dec 2010, but due to one problem or the other, I deferred my admission to Fall 2011 which August 2011, that is next month. I contacted the US embassy whether I am going to come for a new interview or not before I asked my school to deffer my admission, but they said but I'd need to receive a new I-20 from the school for Fall semester.

The school had sent me the I-20 for Fall semester back since March 2011,

To summarize the story, now my I-20 has been terminated, and I contacted the Department of State and I explained everything to them. They said since I cannot attend the school again, my visa is officially void.

Now I'm confused I don;t know what to do again.

You need to give more details on your situation, meanwhile answer these questions;
Did the school cancel your admission?
When did your visa expire?
When did you call the embassy?
When did you call the Department of State?

@imperioux: Her reply should signal your next move, whether to defer or follow through. August 10 is still feasible if the corrected I-20 can be sent within a week, i think.

I propose that we successful VISA Fall students connect and share our contacts as we plan and yankee together, Life in yankee would be better for us all of we network like our predecessors femilangy, nethacker and co did. This is just a proposal sha, and not mandatory

To be a transfer student you must have attended or be attending some classes (in a university in Nigeria) and wish to continue in USA. If you only have WAEC/NECO then you need admission and not transfer. What do you mean on the statement in bold above? have you been there before or have you had admission there before?

Good evening all,

I just read one of the old post and I realised some people talked about schools not giving original transcript because a candidate for spring 2011 was denied and accused of holding fake transcripts because he presented an original transcript. I have amongst the documents I plan taking to embassy an original transcript from my institution OAU, Ife because they give you a personal copy printed on white plane sheet, signed and stamped for personal use while the ones sent to schools are on yellow papers having a background of the school logo and school name. Please, I would like to know if I should go with my personal copy or make a photocopy of the ones they send to school.

I guess the student copy of the transcript is ok since it is signed and stamped by the school, but if you to intend to get the original (on yellow paper)you can still do cos that is what i intend to use since i dont have the student copy though i am still negotiating how to get that student copy if i could and am negotiating how to get it out of that transcript office.

I thank God cos He has been my strength and my Guide all through. I also want to thank nairalanders and this forum which has been very helpful in more ways than one. I was issued a student visa today at Lagos. i was at the embassy b4 7am today and the officials at the US embassy started cross checking all the applicant's document as early as 6.30am. they had started bouncing persons whose document wasn't in order right from d security post. nyways i finally got screened and was escorted into the embassy where i did my biometrics nd was waiting patiently for the V.O to call my number. (by the way i almost missed my bio-metrics cos i was carried away by the student sitting near me who was also going for masters in public health at harvard. the guy had funding from harvard. i just dey yarn to myself say Nigerians get levels OOO!!!) I also saw General Diya sitting with d masses waiting patiently to be interviewed for his visa, which the lady at counter 4 issued him. the V.O.s where positioned as mentioned by Jasper1 in the earlier post. I was called to counter 1 and the interview went

Me: Good morning with a smile
V.O: didn't respond immediately (probably didn't hear me) but later replied without a smile which i was hoping for cause i was kinda tensed.

V.O: why are you here?
Me: told her i was here for a student visa for my graduate studies

V.O: where are your papers
Me: passed her my passport with all my docs

V.O: so you want to go for post graduate studies at, she looks up at me probably expecting me to give her the name of my school
Me: the University of Bleep at Bleep in Bleep state

V.O: going through the I20 she then said "so you are going for masters in geochemistry"
Me: I immediately jumped in and told her that i was seeking a master degree in Geoscience and i was majoring in geochemistry

V.O: nodding her head and going through the I20 more thoroughly she said "ahhh!!! yes i can see that now"
Me: just looking at V.O.

V.O: How did you learn about this school?
Me: through the internet ma, i googled schools that had ongoing research in petroleum geochemistry because i want to participate in their ongoing research; And I also sought advise from people in the petroleum industry (then i started to stutter then i noticed she was writing stuff down on a piece of paper)

V.O: did u do geology in undergrad studies
me: me yes i did and my thesis was also on geochemistry

V.O: She just nodded and said that there are other schools doing this course in the USA, did you apply to any other schools
Me: Yes, I applied to 4 other schools apart from the Uni of my choice

V.O: nodding and writing on the piece of paper. "which other schools did u apply? "
Me: Listed the schools and the location and states, but the V.O cut me off before i listed all the schools

V.O: why did you pick this school?
Me: because they had great facilities and good faculty and most importantly coos they are willing to let me participate in their ongoing research

V.O: can i have your results, GRE and Toefl
me: Gave her (was waiting for her to as for my university degree but she didn't)

V.O: nodding her head, still writing on a piece of paper, then she looks at her screen "so you have a relative in the USA, living in texas?"
Me: Yes, my cousin lives in Texas. he is a citizen of the USA (she wrote on paper again,at this point i saw she had tabulated my response and my cousin living in Tx was on the negative side of the table)

V.O: who is sponsoring your education?
Me: My cousin (same one living in the USA) and my mother

V.O: now typing on her computer "why did they decide to sponsor you?"
me: i said something about them being impressed with my admission, i can't remember what i told her

V.O: what does your cousin do for a living?
me: told her

V.O: what does your mother do for a living?
me: told her

V.O: what does your father do for a living?
me: at this point i was surprised because i had not mentioned my father at all, nyways, i told her.

V.O: Can I have the bank statements please
me: gave her the 2 statements along with a form I-134 for those having international sponsors

V.O: going through the statements
me: tried to point out which statement was which
V.O: i know what i am doing
me: i said "Ok ma" and kept my mouth shut, lol

V.O: so have you heard about state Bleep before, why did you decide to go to school there?
me: i told her it was because they were willing to let me participate in the ongoing research at the uni

V.O: will you write a thesis
me: yes

V.O : what is the thesis you hope to write
me: told her

V.O: what do you plan to do after you graduate
me: told her i would like to be a geoscientist for one of the many petroleum companies in Nigeria

V.O: what are the names of the companies you would like to work for?
me: mobil or shell because they are into exploration activities which makes my proposed area of studies relevant to them

V.O: nodding her head "how do you know petroleum companies have ongoing exploration projects?"
me: surprised but told her i had worked in one of the petroleum companies during my NYSC and my position there exposed me to their dealings

V.O: have you ever traveled outside Nigeria before
Me: almost lied but I told her the truth that I had never traveled before cos I have never had a reason to travel until now.

V.O: now picking up a white piece of paper
me: my heart wanted to cut cos iv heard NL's saying they always gave a white piece of paper to rejected applicants

V.O: im going to issue you a visa, handing me a green ticket, but you'll have to go pick it up at ,
me: at this point i was seething with Joy and i couldn't comprehend what she was saying but i kept my cool

V.O: gave me the ticket and a white paper
me: Thank you ma, do have a nice day, and i left the building

Nairalanders help me thank God. from my interview you can see that it was by Gods grace i got my visa. Please anyone going to the embassy should be prepared to defend their motives for wanting to travel and above all be prayerful and ask God for Wisdom to reply the questions properly else,
I was resolute and truthful about my purpose and God gave me victory. I wish all future applicants good success.

@jasper1 congrats on your success at the consul; but i noticed the V.Os were just doing their jobs the best way they know and i am just happy we were successful.

If I may recollect, you guys are making reference to an old issue by a member. That member came across the chinko lady who looked for a way to denial the guy by saying that transcript was fake. That member in question also showed her his evaluated report, still was asked to tell her(chinko lady) who did if for him whereas the transcript was the student official copy.

Guys, I don't think you have any problem. Just go with the one issued by your school. Even UNAD gives a white signed duplicate to the student to every official transcript send to the recipient.

@fun2sho, Gboyega, Imperiouxx: I intend taking the print out of my online transcript. I can defend it by saying it is easily verifiable from the university's website. I will not advise a photocopy. I will not also advise that your university issue you transcript to take to the embassy as the embassy is not a higher institution. I can only recommend a transcript that is stamped and signed 'STUDENT'S COPY'. Either this or the print out of the online transcript which is verifiable from the uni's website. There is an interview where a guy took a photocopy and got it. There is another where the guy took a transcript from his university; the lady said he is not supposed to be in possession of his own transcript - he was denied. Take less risks. Cheers!

School can't issue you hard copy of transcript to possess. Though, they do so for timely posting it on their behalf, else you wait for long for it to be posted. Student copy that I was talking about is like you paying in the bank and come back home with the duplicate copy of your payment teller. In my school, the copy given to students won't carry the school heading and the school emblem won't be at the background. Across it will be boldly written COPY.

This lady is something else, she is claiming that she used what she saw to fill the I-20(and she is the only one that interchanged first name for last name) and that it is letter to the embassy not them that show the sponsorship(like its my first time of seeing I-20). Well, she has written the graduate school and they said they will address the issue and defer the admission till spring. Endurance is what I will exercise.

I am scared of presenting this Statement of Result at the Embassy because 'VALID FOR 12 MONTHS ONLY' is written at the bottom of it. Please, what do you think?

Also, since I finished since '98, bagged a BSc this year June, do you think questions like 'what have you been doing between '98 and now' will come up?

Thirdly, after having my father do my letter of sponsorship, do I have to notarize it or do an Affidavit of Support?

your WAEC result is important but since u are going for graduate studies, they might want to focus more on your undergrad degree. And if asked, you can present what u have from WAEC and explain your situation to d V.O. as u explained in your post. its the way you present your case that matters. I think whats more important is to explain why you didn't go for NYSC. they might ask and u should be prepared to give a reasonable answer.

about the letter of sponsorship, i think your dads letter will do. In my case she didnt look at the letter just the statement of account.

@Abatts4naija: Thanks. as per the NYSC, naturally I am beyond the age of serving, was exempted on the basis of age. Do you have any other points? Please funnel across.

As for degree, I finished last month, degree certificate is not yet ready, so I am going with the print-out of the online transcript. What do you say?

As for sponsorship, I am using my father's company, the sponsorship letter is being prepared on the company's letterhead. Does he need to sign it alone or with anyone else?

i think you should be ok with your NYSC just make sure you r resolute when defending your case

as for your degree, i don't think your transcript would be enough to defend the fact that you have an undergraduate degree. you could get a statement of result from your institution indicating your year of graduation and your grade i.e. 2nd class e.t.c. .This is a tenable document anywhere in the world.

Just get a signed letter and a statement of account from your sponsor, in your case your dads company and you'll be fine.

Again presentation is key. just make sure you defend your documents very well.

@Abats4naija: Thanks. As for my degree, it will be somewhat difficult for me to get a statement of result from my school because I just finished last month. Infact, the result for my final semester is not yet out. The school admitted me this way because I am on a first class. What do you think?

Also, what do you think about wearing a Suit? I am going for a Masters in a business course. Actually, I am thinking of wearing something 'Native'. Abeg just counsel, say your mind.
