Aww, this 13 feet giant Python killed itself by swallowing more than it could chew. The rock Python was found dead at the side of the road at Lake Eland Game Reserve, near Port Shepstone, South Africa. When its stomach was opened, a two stone porcupine was found inside it.

Understood but why didn't the spines harden at the mouth of the large python? I mean the porcupine should have detected an attack at the point of entry?

Hian! That is eenn, a trick or a guise? Now so after it swallowed it, the spikes came out or projected outwardly to kill the serpent. I'm learning new things.

The porcupine spike grows from head and falls backward.(it only stand straight for defence)
As long as the snake swallows from the head it has no initial difficulty.
With the spikes protruding toward the snake head in its stomach and the snake crawling on its below forward, its a matter if time before the spikes starts poking through the snake stomach.

Moral of the lesson, don't eat more than u can chew.
