Buhari's "Empty Treasury" Song - A Timely Dirge Or A Rehash Of A Spent Lullaby? by Duhduhduh: 4:31pm On Jun 25, 2015
If you asked Fela Anikulapo Kuti, he'd tell you that Shagari met an
empty treasury when he came in 1979...It's a wonder and a marvel that
with "empty treasuries" from one administration to another, Nigeria is
still standing! So....em...let's just take some more photographs (for
the press, social media and all that) then get on with it...!

Why? I'd say, why not?

Since May 29 have we totally stopped producing crude oil?
The crude oil supply contracts that we have, are there no accruals
that would come into the national treasury since May 29 and moving
forward?
Have we stopped exporting crude oil since May 29 (even if it is at $30
per barrel? And if we have not stopped exporting crude, are we not
going to expect to be paid since May 29?
Of the Excess Crude Account which the state governors have
vociferously drawn their "pound of flesh", it is understood that there
was left about $2billion - did this vanish into thin air since May 29?
I also thought, it was agreed that there was $29billion left in
foreign reserves or has this vanished into thin air since May 29?
Has the revenue from our Customs Service via our various sea, land
borders and airports ceased since May 29?
Have other IGR sources ceased since May 29 - various Taxes (high end &
low end), V.A.T, ETF, NAC, withholding, etc, etc.
How about other levies, registration charges, dues, accruable to the
MDA's - have they ceased since May 29?
Have export earnings of other non-oil commodities (no matter how
little) stopped since May 29?
Will all factors for generating the macroeconomic principle of
'national income' ("total value of a country's final output of all new
goods and services produced in one year"wink cease from May 29?
Etc, etc?

When you apply for a job and put yourself forward to manage an ailing
organisation with a view to achieving a "turn around" (positive
change), it is taken that you already know that the organisation is
ailing (that's no longer news!). What is needed and expected of you
from the shareholders is for you to 'roll up your sleeves and get your
hands dirty!' - get on with getting the job done! After all, these are
the requisite man specifications you advertised at the selection
interview that eventually got you the job!

Okay...Since we 'love' America so much and once we give examples from
the U.S. or Europe, we believe it 'validates' our local
propositions...(not that I give a hoot, but 'let's go there..!)

America's democratic practice has run for over 200 long years (since
1776!). There, rather than our (as Fela puts it), "Soldier Go, Soldier
Come... Soldier Come, Soldier Go...", they have had instead,
'government administration go, government administration come' change
of batons from Democrats to Republicans...dah...dah...dah...Some
administrations have taken over in times of deep recession, others in
times of war, etc, etc.

Of late, "our own" dear Barrack Obama took over as a Democratic Party
candidate for the Republicans and we can dare say, when things were
'pretty very bad' for the U.S. economy....job cuts, inflation, wars in
Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. Obama did not spend precious time bemoaning
the state of the economy he met to all who cared to listen (on
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TV, radio, what-have-you...). He knew
the job description to be US President and he applied for the
job...So? He rolled up his sleeves and got his hands dirty with
getting the job done. (If you can't stand ze heat, you git out of ze
kitchen!) And two terms after, here we are....

I humbly posit that our new leadership are truly desirous to "turn
around" the state of the nation positively...So, can we hear more of:

"This is HOW I'm going to tackle this! This is HOW I'm going to tackle
that!! These are the results I aim to achieve! These are the time
frames I am looking at! Yes, we can!!!" rather than rehashing Fela...

"I come sing say 'Corruption'...Na old news be dat!
Na old old old news be dat e o...Na old news be dat!
I come sing say 'Mismanagement'...Na old news be dat!
Na old old old news be dat e o...Na old news be dat!
I come sing say 'Stealing by Government'...Na old news be dat!
Na old old old news be dat e o...Na old news be dat!"

So everybody say, 'Yeah, yeah!'
The 'ayes' have it..!
Let's get on with it...!
