You could install useful web-developer add-ons on your Mozilla Firefox.

Thanks mustay for that contribution. I actually forgot about that. Some people for some strange reasons do not like firefox.
Again, sometimes, you may find yourself somewhere other than your pc.

But i think it is best you install firefox and get all the useful addons too as a web developer, firebug and all.

Yes it is. The only way to ensure that your website will display properly (with respect to XHTML) across a myriad of browsers/devices is to ensure that it validates for the defined DTD (xhtml-transitional, etc).
