The Kano state Government has expressed satisfaction that the rule of law was allowed to take its course in the case of a recent judgment by an Upper Shari’a Court, Rijiyar Lemo, in the state, which passed death sentences on nine persons for blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed (SAW).The government noted that the judgment is a clear pointer to the fact that whoever breaks the law of the land will not be spared.

It also expressed appreciation to the general public for the patience and the calmness with which they allowed the law to take its course, despite the unwarranted provocation.

In a statement signed by Baba Halilu Dantiye, Director General, Media and Communications to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the state government noted that accused persons were convicted under Section 110 and 382B of the Kano Shari’a Criminal Procedure Law (2000).

The statement also appreciated the role played by the Ulama by calming frayed nerves and preaching for understanding during the whole saga and commended the court for the meticulous handling of the case and for disposing it in good time without subjecting it to unnecessary delays.

The statement expressed the hope that the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who feel they can come and cause a breach of the peace, adding that it also justifies government’s resolve to look into the existing law which provides for the regulation of preaching and preachers in the state through the State House of Assembly.

Killing free citizens that are guarantee freedom of expression under the constitution of the federal republic and under the Africa and United Nation charter on human right and freedom of expression because of a Prophet that has died in a long while(who will not approve of this action) and claiming to do it for God who asked no one to fight for Him is wrong, I hope they appeal the ruling.

The government of Kano state has breached their freedom of expression.

Where is amnesty international? Now that their services is required they are quiet. This is pure garbage, our corrupt politicians that deserve death sentence are still moving up and down and being celebrated after raping our collective common wealth. I'm sure all those sentenced are actually poor people. If they were rich they won't face such poo. I begin to wonder? Which law is the de facto law of the land? Is it sharia or constitutional laws.
