The All Progressives Congress (APC) has
alleged that the Rivers state governor,
Nyesom Wike, plans to amass debt and
‘plunge the state into an abyss of debt’ .

In a statement yesterday, July 1, the party’s
secretary, Chris Finebone, said it had
uncovered plans by the governor to wreck the
state’s treasury by borrowing the tune of
N100 billion.
The statement claims the governor intends to
borrow the sums of N10, N20, N30 and N40
billion respectively in a period of two months.
It added that Wike has even contacted a few
banks in recent times, in a bid to expedite his
plans.
“Information we are privy to, strongly indicates
that the governor and his men have started
negotiation with Heritage and Eco Banks to
obtain another loan of N30b in the coming week
or so. This will bring the total amount of loan
obtained by the embattled governor to N60b in
less than 45 days as governor of Rivers State,”
Fishbone, said.

In another development, a group operating
under the aegis of Nigeria Against Corruption
Group has alleged that fraudulent activities
occurred in the Universal Basic Education
Commission (UBEC) under the supervision of
Wike at the time he was the minister of state
for education.
