Ita Ekpeyong, director-general of the states security service (SSS), has resigned. A source who spoke with TheCable said Ekpeyong submitted his resignation letter around 10am, and one M. M. Daura from Katsina state is being tipped to succeed him. Former president Goodluck Jonathan appointed him in 2010 after dismissing Afakriya Gadzama. The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is reported to be unimpressed by the organisation’s conduct in the buildup to the March 28 presidential election. Useless DSS that has become the errand boys of the likes of FFK.

He brought nothing but shame to the once respected secret service by making it a PDP ward.

Ogar should tow the same line and throw in the towel.

This is what PMB should have asked of the DSS leaders instead of trying to pull down the secret service. If he's not comfortable working with anyone let him ask for their resignation and replace with those he's comfortable with. Just hope we don't get to see another northern appointment.

The man that turned an intelligence agency into a PDP branch and in the process completely eroded all security functions of d DSS.
To me the lowest point was when DSS ransacked APC Lagos Secretariat and took 8months to cook up supposed pictures of people the dss claimed were from hacked inec database by the APC.
The funny stuff was that INEC database was not however on the net!How cud APC have hacked a database that was not on the net?!!That just gave out d DSS under ekpeyong as a fickle minded organisation run by people that clearly didn't seem to have passed through the rudimentary elements of computer appreciation that even primary one pupils these days possess!!
With the cable however, one has to treat any news report from them with a trailer load of caution till also reported by more credible news media.

It’s the President's call who he wants to appoint but honestly, he could have appointed a serving officer (not retiree) even if from his home State like he has now done. The new DG is from Duara, Katsina State like the President and retired from the SSS or was retired, not sure which. It’s like appointing a retired General as COAS or a retired Police Officer as IG. For a while now, insiders have been appointed as DGSS and I think it helps for staff motivation, cohesion and professional development. I recall that even FRSC (Road Safety) guys "quietly made some noise" and an insider was appointed when Chidoka left.
