The arrest of Boko Haram's leader along with over 70 others comes under spotlight




Security forces in Chad have arrested one of the leaders of the Nigerian extremist group, Boko Haram. This is according Chad's chief prosecutor, Alhassim Khamis.

In a statement released on Monday, Khamis said that Bahna Fanaye, whose alias is Mahamat Moustapha, was detained on Sunday, along with two others.

He added that the forces confiscated various weapons, documents, communication tools and over than 50 cellphone SIM cards from Fanaye's home.

According to reports Fanaye co-ordinated the trafficking of weapons between Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad for the drastic Islamic network.

Khamis also said a man described as the financier of the group was also arrested in a separate operation.

Reports state that the security forces have now detained 74 suspects.

Chad has been a major military supporter with Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram, which, according numerous reports has openly threatened the Chadian president with retaliation
