A police officer, Mr Jerome Eze who was
dismissed from service for no just cause has
asked the National Industrial Court (NIC) to
send the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria,
Mr Godwin Emefiele and the Permanent
Secretary, Ministry of Finance to prison for
refusing to pay to him from the police account,
a judgment sum of N67 million.
After securing a judgment against the police for
unlawful dismissal, Eze proceeded to garnishee
the police account with the CBN.
The court granted the garnishee order nisi and
later made it absolute.
The court ordered the CBN Governor and the
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance to pay
Eze
They were ordered to pay Eze over N67 million
for wrongful termination of his appointment as a
police officer without due process, loss of
earning and the insults heaped on him.
When they did not, Form 48 (Notice of
Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order)
made pursuant to Order ix, Rule 13 of the court
was issued against them.
Failure to comply with the judgment in the
matter makes Emefiele and the permanent
secretary "guilty of contempt of court and will
be liable to be committed to prison".
Eze, a police officer of the rank of Deputy
Superintendent of Police (DSP), with Force No:
AP11718 in suite no: NINC/ABJ/CV/309/2012
filed a petition against a dismissal letter
P11718/FS/15 signed by the Inspector-General
of Police (IGP) "though the letter did not
disclose any offence".
