We are considered to be the rape capital of the world. For some obscure reason South African men appear to be susceptible to committing rape. I do not know whether it is in our genes or there is some other malfunction in our system that triggers the urge to rape. Maybe the men in our country have a serious image and ego problem that they feel that they have to assert their manhood in this manner. No female in this country is safe from the scourge of rape. Children from the age of two months and right up to the age of ninety have been raped. Some are repeatedly gang raped by the rapists. There have been cases reported where ten of these “gentlemen” had their way with some poor unfortunate women. It has been suggested in some quarters that it is a culture thing. I do not think so, it must be extremely difficult being a woman in our country.

In the year 2013/2014 the rape statistics given were just over 46,000. It has been estimated that only 1 in 9 cases are ever reported to the police. This in fact suggests that there were in fact over 400,000 rape cases for this period. The authorities said that they had a conviction rate of about 67% for 6,000 cases brought to court. You do not have to be a mathematical genius to work out this percentage against the reported 46,000 let alone against the 400,000. These are rather sobering and indeed horrifying figures. The bottom line is that there are 40,000 reported rapes which have not been solved for this period. This means that these gentlemen are walking around free in our society.

I believe that there has to be a radical change to our legislation, as far as dishing out justice to these perpetrators of rape is concerned. No bail to be allowed and on conviction a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years imposed with hard labor, and no possibility of parole. Furthermore the sentencing must include a mandatory castration in one of our state hospitals without any anesthetic procedure. A recording has to be made of the screams while the individual is being castrated. This recording can be given to the rape victim as part of the restorative justice system that is in place. I am sure that she may just enjoy the screams of her rapist. The offending organ of rape needs to be incapacitated, a man without his testicles is hardly likely to get an erection and a load in his joystick to commit rape.

The scourge of rape in our country needs to be faced squarely. Draconian types of crime have to be combated with draconian measures. Our citizens need to realize that their actions have very specific consequences.

As a closing salvo, all convicted rapists to be kept in a separate prison. The warders in this prison must be all women. They must be beautiful, sexy long legged females. The convicted rapists would have twenty years to ponder on their crimes while being looked after by these warders. This would surely be the poetic form of justice!!!
