Nigerians Blast Nigeria Police For Parading Suspects Without Trials by AdoraAmadi: 8:07am On Jul 07, 2015
Some Nigerians have taken to Twitter to protest how the Nigerian Police parade suspects before a court of Law finds them guilty. This is happening after 4 men were paraded yesterday as the Ikorodu robbers. The guys who are tweeting right now believe the parades must stop. Do you agree? Tweets continue below.

True talk. Nigerian legal system is a mess. Worst of it all, some these SUSPECTS spend months before they are tried in court where the case keeps getting adjourned. At the end of the day, you realize you've spent close to a year in police custody for a crime you didnt even commit.

Once them don parade you like this, na that one them dey refer to as "NO GOING BACK"

It's either them go kill you or you go jail without trial.

I also have my reservations on the paraded suspects, by the Police.

It is only in this country police will arrest, parade, detain suspect before fishing for evidence .

It's almost a month the Nigeria police paraded the Lekki robbery suspects, and till now, none of them has been arraign as the police is still searching for evidence, beyond the usual "word of mouth" evidence to nail the suspects.

Social media have become a where ill-informed people display ignorance. The people paraded were not addressed as criminals, which would have been wrong, but as suspects.

It is wrong to parade suspect before trial.

Constitutionally, a suspect is innocent untill proven guilty, but the acts of parading suspect in shackles in full public glare amount to a "trial" before a trial ...

well anything happens in a useless country like Nigeria, those guys are not the ikorodu robbers take it or leave it, nonsense.

They are suspects, addressed as such, not criminals. The police have done nothing wrong.

The whole system is messed up. I read how how those paraded confessed how they carried our the operation and no lady was in their midst. However, eye witnesses said otherwise claiming a girl is their leader and them been teens but we are seeing nd hearing something different

Brother I beg to disagree with you on this. Why are the ordinary crooks and 419ers always the ones paraded?? When it comes to politicians who are the biggest thieves amongst us, it is aways "a former president", "a former lawmaker from XYZ state", "a member of the BoT was alleged to blablabla", etc. We would never see their names or have let alone have them in front of cameras with their pictures taken. Shouldn't the law be equally applied to everyone

what will the NPF ever do to please you guys?

The robbery went on without intervention by the police, you people condemned

The fished out the robbers and some of you said is a lie that it was a cover up for there failure

The decided to parade the robbers for the public to see.... wahala

Didn't you hear their confession.

The next thing now will be comparing America to Nigeria.

Bunch of ingrates learn to appreciate your own for once!!!!!

What if you were accused and paraded as a robbery suspect? You know you're innocent but the Police has smeared your name. Would your right to personal dignity be untouched by the parade? A suspect is INNOCENT until he/she is found guilty by the court. The damage is extensive.

The "suspects" are still innocent in the eyes of the law, and going by your logic, the police did no wrong by parading "innocent" fellows on cuffs and in full public glare ?

If those paraded can prove their innocence in the court, they may sue the Police for smearing their images.

I think we are becoming too harsh with the police. They paraded "suspects" and not "convicts". Will they also blast the judiciary for labelling them "accused" because they haven't been convicted? Give the police a break....The suspects should prove their innocence in court.

I can only agree with if you say the police shouldn't have used handcuff, as there is a campaign against it which I support. Have you not seen rich men, even John Yusuf, being taken to courts and are ashamed to the extent of covering their faces with newspapers?

What if they dont have enough money to pursue a court case? What would they even achieve with a court case against a state institution in a currupt judiciary? So what if they are paid millions as compensation, will that restore their lost honour and dignity in the eyes of the public?

Do you sincerely believe this damage control is more effective than prevention?

Have you ever visited prisons on humanitarian or religious missions? The prison authorities will tell you boldly that majority of their inmates have not been tried. Yet many of them have spent 5 or more years awaiting trial. They are transfered to other prisons outside the states of their arrest and the cases are forgotten while the "suspects" continue in incarceration.

That is the justice system you want these men to submit themselves to.

These suspects are mostly ignorant about their rights and they hardly hire lawyers, trusting in the dubious impartiality of our courts. Should the police be allowed to interrogate a suspect in the absence of his lawyer?

Even if a confession is obtained, they have the right to dignity to avoid such parades until they are pronounced guilty.
