Manchester United have made a substantial £25 million offer for Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as they prepare for the exit of David de Gea, according to the Daily Star.

With de Gea in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and expected to join Real Madrid either this summer of next, Louis van Gaal is keen to wrap up a deal for his replacement.

Adding to the fuel that de Gea will be on his way to the Spanish capital this summer, the agent of Iker Casillas has confirmed to ESPN that the Real Madrid legend is close to joining FC Porto.

United have been linked with a whole host of replacement goalkeepers for their 2014-15 Player of the Season, and the Daily Star are now citing reports coming from Turkish newspaper Vatan that claim the Red Devils have their eyes set on Galatasaray’s shot stopper Fernando Muslera.

The report even claims that United have submitted a mega £25 million bid for the Uruguayan number one’s service.

Muslera has been with the Turkish giants for the past four years following his big-money from Lazio. He is an excellent shot stopper, flexible, but also comes up with a couple of clangers each season. A £25 million bid at the age of 29 seems excessive.

The Uruguayan has 66 caps for his national team and has been their number one at each of the past two World Cups.

However, even if these reports are accurate, United’s mega offer may still be rejected as the president of the Turkish champions, Dursun Özbek has been quoted recently by the Daily Star,saying Galatasaray will refuse to sell their goalkeeper:



“MUSLERA IS LOVED BY ALL GALATASARAY FANS. WE WILL NOT SELL HIM TO ANY CLUB. GALATASARAY IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S BIGGEST CLUBS.”

Of course, they would be mad to reject such an offer, but should United fail in their attempt to sign Muslera, they are also strongly linked with Hugo Lloris or Asmir Begović as alternative options – two goalkeepers who have already proved themselves in the Premier League.
