A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on
Wednesday remanded a-23-year-old man,
Promise Iwuzor, in prison for allegedly pursuing
his mother with a machete.

The accused , a resident of Angwan Hausawa,
Kabusa village, Abuja, is standing trial on a
charge of criminal intimidation.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, ordered that
the accused be remanded in prison and
adjourned the case till Sept. 21 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Shedrack Dauda,
told the court that one Madam Stella Jim
reported the matter at the Kabusa Police
Station on July 3.

He said that the accused picked a machete and
pursued some of his neighbours, threatening to
kill them, following a mere misunderstanding
on the said date.

The prosecutor said that when the complainant
came out and asked the accused to stop what
he was doing, he turned and chased the
complainant with a machete, saying that he
was going to deal with her.

Dauda said that the neighbours, however,
intervened and rescued the complainant from
the accused, adding that the accused had
become a nuisance to the entire residents of
the area.

He said that the offence contravened Section
397 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty,
saying that he did not have any issue with his
neighbours, but only had a misunderstanding
with his mother, the complainant.
