TERTIARY HARM
Our tertiary institutions or universities have produced world class students who have excelled greatly in their various careers and establishments.
Great professors, lecturers and exceptional non- academic staffs, But the harm in our institutions remains. When do we improve our infrastructures?
Are the funds not being released? , are the funds being embezzled? , what should be the capacity each institution should hold? , these are the questions begging for answers.
National University Commission (NUC) accreditation is now being mocked and financially obtainable, causing more harm than good to our higher institutions.
You can never believe that your departmental laboratories are so equipped and organized until the day the NUC accreditation team is to arrive. The best books are dug out of the archives into the light of the library only when the accreditation team is around. You get to know the number of students each department and level is meant to hold only when this team is arriving. Who is fooling who?
Are the books and equipments meant for the stores to study? Why stress the school facilities with outrageous number of students?. The multitude that comes for lectures and joint lectures in a 200 capacity is enough to pull it down, Thereby making learning unbearable. Are these things unknown to the NUC or do they just sweep it under the carpet? Little wonder rich parents send their children abroad to study.
Good environment, infrastructures and adequate population also aides learning. This harm on our tertiary is long overdue and needs to be put to an end.
